A Day in the Life of Moose

Bugging the cat. (Thank you all for the time-out idea, it's made the cat-chasing less often and intense, and only took a few times!) Playing with his best friend, Mila. Smelling cooked bacon for the first time and deciding it is the best thing ever (and breaking the rule of going in...

Brand New Pet Stairs - Used Once

Hey guys, When I owned my Jeep I bought these pet stairs for Moose. I used them once but then traded in my car for a Honda Element so these have literally been in the box ever since last summer. They are the 4 step, extra large, 18" platform steps (found here...

    Long Lasting Stuffed Animals?

We have a bit of a problem in our household. Moose LOVES stuffed animals above all other toys in the world. He will gladly pluck one off the shelf and take it around Petsmart and it is always in his mouth at home...The problem is, we have yet to find one that lasts for longer than a week or two...

    Moose's Photo Shoot Pictures!!!

We finally got Moose's pictures back from our photo shoot and I am pleased as punch... allow me to share. All of us (love that the only ones truly happy in this photo are me and Moose! Everyone else wants out!) Me and my boys. Showing off his mad "wait" skills. He surprised me...

    Rimadyl vs Generic Novox

Anyone have experience of rimadyl vs the generic novox? It's time to refill Moose's meds, so just wondering if anyone has tried both and noticed a difference. I love that the Rimadyl are chewable, but novox and greenies pill pockets would be cheaper. I don't dare switch him to a different med...

    Cat Chasing

Moose won't stop chasing the cat. It's to the point that he stalks her through the house. I need ideas, please!!!

How to Disappoint Your Newfie in Two Easy Steps!

Step one: Remove all chairs giving your newf ample space to stretch out and enjoy all that cold, open, unobscured tile. Step two: Using said chairs, barricade them out of the room while you mop - leaving them to pull this face at you. Just LOOK at those puppy eyes of disappointment! (And...

    Other People's Dogs (rant)

So I just took my boys for a late night walk. We get about half a block away from my house when I hear another dog freaking out and my heart drops. You guessed it, it wasn't on a leash and came charging across the street! I had Ollie loose and following us (frankly, it's easier without his...

    Acana: which bag?

Okay all you experts...should I feed acana Chicken and Burbank or stick with the Acana Pacifica? Not sure about the nutrient differences in them.

Moose has lice! I was right!!! (plus more Moose health updates)

So after two flea dips and countless hours cleaning my house like a maniac, I bit the bullet and took Moose to the vet (for lice and for his paws - he has bloody paws). When I called this vet, he said that it couldn't be lice because lice is "extremely rare". I said, "trust me, rare is common...

    Random Mr. Moose pictures

Nothing much new here on the Moose front. We're working on building more muscles in his butt on our daily walks. The vet at the rehab center still wanted to put him down and didn't really help with a "long term" plan for him ...so I think our time there is finished. I don't care for the...

    Flease!?

Fleas!? You guys. I think Moose might have fleas. Help! Advice, how to know, how to treat, etc. (Shaving the whole dog - while tempting, is not an option). He won't stop itching his head and neck and biting his paws. I searched in his fur but could only find white things on his head, so I'm...

    Do you fast your dog?

Hey guys, Switched Moose to Orijin six fish. He absolutely LOVES it and hopefully it'll stop his itching (top of his head itches something fierce, and with his back legs losing sensation, he really has to do some acrobatic moves to get his fat paw up there and give it a good scratching). I...

    Moose makes a fantastic butler

Since he's always packing things around, I've decided to put this mutt to work! I asked him to pack this bulky sweater (the biggest thing I've asked him to carry) and he did proudly! Now he's running around the house and picking up every tidbit of laundry he can find and bringing it to me...

    AWESOME silver color around pupil

Heyo! You guys sick of me posting yet? So I mentioned that the vet found our "silver lining" today. He looked into Moose's eyes and gasped and said, "what gorgeous eyes you have, I've never seen any like them!" and I thought he just meant how newfs can have very expressive eyes...but no. Turns...

    Moose Update from Neurologist Visit

Much better outlook from this neurologist today. The neuro test had the same consistent results as Thursday's exam: Loss of feeling and function in the hind end, over-reaction to some stimuli and not reacting to pain in his back knees and feet...still has severe hip dysplasia but it's worse in...

    Anyone used turmeric for dogs?

Keep hearing turmeric is good. You all know what a desperate situation I'm in, so I take everyone's advice and research and evaluate first. Wanted to check with the newf experts if it's any good and worth adding to his regimen?

Mr. Moose at Therapy and Other Random Pics

Bear with me as I overload you all with photos of my precious bear. We'd like to thank you for all the sweet love, support, prayers and comments you've sent our way. Definitely feeling them. Some random shots: With me and Mila at Petsmart, I look crazy - sorry. Watching over my nieces...

Moose is in pretty bad shape, prayers please

Bad news today, unfortunately. We went to his rehab evaluation and the vet (who has seen a lot of dogs with spinal fusions) has never seen anything as bad as Moose. She said that he has severe hip dysplasia, calcified elbows, and where his fusions are are starting to cut off his spinal cords...

We may have an addiction to bibs....

Here's his two newest ones. His others say, "No, I'm not a bear!" and "Moose the newf". LOVE drool bibs. Always get great comments and they help break the ice with strangers who would otherwise be petrified of a big dog (not many big dogs here in Utah, especially newfs!) Someone help...
