I don't know how I missed this thread earlier...but how wonderful it was to read from the 1st post to the most recent and not have to be on pins and needles for the past week!!! Life can be so unfair sometimes that I was scared each time I saw Hank's avatar picture signaling an up dated report on Hank's condition.

I am so relieved that he continues to improve.

And ask your Vet if you can get a pass on the Rabies from now on (can't remember the term). Don't want to risk THAT again!!!!!

Yeah our vet said he has never seen this before and said he bet he never sees it again. He said it was just an unfortunate luck situation.

I'm so happy to hear that Hank is rebounding so well!

Auto-immune problems from vaccinations (especially Rabies) isn't unheard of. In fact, Dr. Jean Dodds is sponsoring a Rabies Challenge to encourage Vets to get on board with NOT giving Rabies vaccinations so frequently. Of course research needs to be presented to the State Governments to have them change their required protocols. Some states required 1 year vaccinations, until just recently. Now, I believe, all are three year protocols.

Also, here's a lot of info about a dog's immune system. Vaccination problems are discussed farther down the page.

I think the issue is often with the MLV (modified live virus) versus the killed virus versions of the vaccines given.

So happy to hear your baby bear is better! This kind of thing is so scary. We nearly lost our horse a couple of years ago after a bad reaction to a vaccine. I know how scary this was !
Please post some more pics of darling Hank!
