    severe canine rhinitus

Anyone have experience with this condition? We went ahead and took our newf for a CT and rhinoscopy for his recurring nasal infections which included extusis. CT scan showed a nasal tumor, but biopsy came back negative for cancer cells. The vet is still concerned because the CT showed some bone...

    Nasal tumor?

Our newf has had recurring nasal discharge (green mucous), sneezing, and hacking for over a year. The vet would always prescribe antibiotics and benadryl and the discharge would go away, but eventually come back several months later. They did bloodwork and results came back normal. A couple of...

    Nurture Heavenly Harvest dog food

I found this at our local Harris Teeter store. It is Nurture Heavenly Harvest Holistic dog food. Seemed like it would be good for our newf but I think it may be a new product as I've never heard of it before. Wanted to get feedback on whether anyone has heard of this brand and if it's any good...

    snotty nose?

Yogi has had a snotty nose for the past few weeks. It looks very mucousy and yellowish-green. Is it possible for dogs to get colds? What is the best remedy for this? He is also breathing strangely lately--loud and a little labored, although he doesn't do this all the time. Asthma? Allergies? Cold?

    Temporary home?

We just sold our home and bought a new construction home that won't be ready until probably the end of October/November. The problem is, we will now need to move into a temporary residence and are having a difficult time finding a rental that will allow large dogs. We don't have family/friends...

    Question re: claims with PetCare

We have had PetCare Quick Gold for about 3yrs. Our policy excludes hip dysplasia and related conditions because he was diagnosed at about 2yrs of age and considered a pre-existing condition. Took our Newf to the vet because he had been limping for a while and she suspected his knee and referred...

    Feeding venison?

We have a freezer full of venison from hunting season. We've been giving cooked ground venison to our newf in addition to his kibble. I figure since it is a fairly lean meat, it would be okay. Okay to feed a newf venison?

    hard time climbing steps

hard time climbing steps---Update About two months ago, DH took our dog for a short "run." Bad mistake. Ever since then, our newf has been limping around. Although, he seems to walk fine when going on walks around the neighborhood, but he has a very difficult time climbing the steps now and...

    Terrible dandruff!

Our newf has had very bad dandruff for several weeks. Initially, I just thought it was dry skin from him blowing his coat. Then, I thought it was because we ran out of Omega-3 fish oil supplements (I finally ordered more that will last several years ). But, he has never had dandruff before...

In, out, in, out, in, out....

Now that the weather is cold, our newf always wants to be outside. Fine. The problem is, he doesn't like to be out there by himself so he is constantly wanting to outside, then come back in, then go outside, then come back in  If we don't let him out, he will stand there and bark at us...

    Counter Surfing

Our 5 yr old newf is a terrible counter surfer. He acts like we NEVER feed him What is the most effective way to get to him to stop being such a food hound and quit jumping up on the counters and table top. He has gotten smart in that if we walk out of the room and neglect to remove ALL...

    Having to sell a house?

We have been thinking of buying a new house in the near future. Has anyone had to sell a house recently? What kinds of things did you do to prepare your house for the market, especially in regards to having a newfie living there? I know we will have to replace our scratched up hardwood floors...

    Hacking/coughing Newf

Our newf is 4.5 yrs old and within the past year has been hacking as if he's got a huge hairball stuck in his throat. Or, about ready to hock a loogie (which he does often, or really slings across the room :( ). Could this be due to allergies? Does anyone else's newf do this? We had him on...

    Lee press on nails??

I haven't posted on this board for a very long time and have searched through past messages re: flooring and Newf toenails. We have Bruce hardwood floors that look absolutely AWFUL. They are so scratched up. We are thinking of having the floors replaced/refinished. From what I've read thus far...

    Not even four yet...

...but acts as if he is ninety years old Within the past few months our newf has been mumbling and grumbling every time he shifts while sleeping or resting. During the night, he does this several times--he likes to move to different spots around our bedroom. But, even when he doesn't...

    Shark cartilage supplements ?

We have been giving our newf shark cartilage for a couple of years now. We usually give him the NOW brand (750mg, 2 capsules per meal, 2 meals/day). I think the last time I ordered these online, I paid maybe $75 for 3 bottles (300 capsules each). I found another brand called Doctor's Trust that...

    Vacuum reccommendations, PLEASE!

Which vacuum do you use to pick up your newfie's hair??? We have gone through two vacuums and our third is about ready to die. We've also gone through two steam cleaners :( I'm currently looking at the Dyson Full Gear. There have been so many great reviews on it. I wonder though, since it's...

    Surgery for an obstruction

Has anyone's pet ever had to have surgery for an obstruction? What symptoms did your dog have? We are in a situation now in which Yogi may need to have surgery for a "possible" obstruction. He had been vomiting for two days, loss of appetite, and diahrrea. This weekend though, he started eating...

    Pet Insurance

Hi there. I haven't posted on here for a while. New baby (human form) has kept us busy. Anyway, I know I've posted this same question a long time ago, but don't remember the responses. I wanted to know if pet insurance was worth getting. I researched it a while ago and thought about getting it...

    Speaking of drool....

We met a woman who had minor surgery done on her newfs' jowels so that they wouldn't drool anymore. Just a nip/tuck at the jowels that allowed the drool to drain back into their throats instead of sliding down their chins. We had never heard of this before and to be honest, was somewhat enticed...
