Temporary home?

We just sold our home and bought a new construction home that won't be ready until probably the end of October/November. The problem is, we will now need to move into a temporary residence and are having a difficult time finding a rental that will allow large dogs. We don't have family/friends that would be able to take him for those 5 months. Any suggestions?

Keep looking. There are rentals out there that accept pets
Yeah, but the problem is we need a short term lease and most SFH/TH rentals only do one year leases. The apartment complexes are the ones that do short term leases and most have pet restrictions/limitations.

I've been in this situation, but I kept looking and eventually found something. Don't give up hope!

Widen your search. We've moved several times and always managed to find a place that allowed large breed dogs, even if one time it was a hotel chain for a couple weeks.

Put an ad in the local paper. I was able to find a short term rental by saying I had two very large well behaved dogs, and the time span I needed to be in the area. I also offered references and a deposit.

Go for a private rental and offer to put down a very large deposit to cover any pet related damages. It shows faith on your part of your pets well behaved nature and helps the landlord cope with the preconceived notion that dogs (especially big dogs) ruin properties. For instance, instead of just first, last and deposit, offer to put down several months rent as a deposit including your first and last. If you cannot afford this look at a loan or a cash advance since you should get the money back as long as your pets dont do any damage.

There are also apartment buildings that cater to owners with dogs, but I think you might have trouble getting a contract that only runs 5 months with a corporate rental like that.

Hi,

Check with your builder. I know when we were building our home the builder had somewhere customers could rent in a situation like yours.

Where in VA are you. I am in South Hill - 80 miles outside of Raleigh NC. I can ask around if you are local to that area.
