Nasal tumor?

Our newf has had recurring nasal discharge (green mucous), sneezing, and hacking for over a year. The vet would always prescribe antibiotics and benadryl and the discharge would go away, but eventually come back several months later. They did bloodwork and results came back normal. A couple of weekends ago, he had bloody discharge from his nostril. The vet said it might be a tooth abcess and to schedule a dental cleaning and they would do x-rays while he was under. Well, his dental cleaning was this morning. Everything looks good--no cavities, abcess, or anything. The x-ray did not show anything conclusive but, she wants us to take him to get a rhino-something-rather procedure. I guess a procedure to scope in there and maybe get a biopsy. Possibly polyps? I am worried :( If it were a lodged object, I would think it would have showed up on the x-ray. Same with a tumor. What could be wrong? His behavior has not been abnormal. Eating and drinking fine, although he refused to eat the past few days because of the antibiotics we'd put in his bowl. I would think that if the bloodwork came back normal, it would not indicate cancer? Right? Somebody help me feel better. :(

Did the vet take a swab of the green discharge? It could be pseudomonas which is what one of my Newfs had and took many months of antibiotics for it to clear up. Just a thought. Good luck and let us know how he is doing.

Sometimes it could be a recurring infection. Some polyps and tumors are not visible on x-ray. And remember a lot of tumors are benign (not life threatening). Not all foreign object are visible on x-ray. It could also be a sinus problem, cancer does not always show up in blood work ups (rarely actually) ................So before you worry too much, see the specialist and let them have a good look.......:hugs: to your newf and we will be thinking of you both....Ronnie

the biopsy will show fungus or other stuff. Greta had it done and it turned out to be a sinus infection. No object stuck in there. It is not a fun procedure for them but if it gives answers its well worth it,.Id see if there was another route to take before you do it.Someone suggested swabing the green stuff.have they done that?
