not sure what's wrong with Buckley

It's so scary when our beloved animals are in trouble and we flounder about trying to find the cause. Just fyi. About 5 years ago my BMD had a debilitating illness. We thought at first it was Lyme disease, but my brilliant vet (who spent countless hours trying to diagnose him) finally came up with immune mediated poly arthritis and we followed a regime of antibiotics, doxycycline and prednisone for 8 or 10 weeks. Also, NO exercise for something like 4 months. I'm pleased to tell you that Baron recovered, although he never received another vacinnation in his entire life (he lived almost 10 years). This was a very frightful time in our lives, as we were afraid we'd have to put him down. He went lame in the course of 12-15 hours....

I wish you all the best and hope you can get to the bottom of this. If you need any more details, I'll be happy to research exactly what we ended up giving him. Post back and I'll go searching if need be.

Only good thoughts!

Sending strength and healing hopes as this moves forward. Indeed sleepless..as wait/watch, and snuggle with a puppers who is trying his damndest to be better. The information detective work on the NN board certainly 'come to the fore'..time, after time! Holding best thoughts, ina n HB n Kesa

Update

Well, Buckley is finally feeling better! He's eating and drinking again and has some energy. There's no sign at all of the weakness that he displayed briefly the other day.

We took him back to the vet on Saturday morning. X-rays showed no GI blockage. They gave him some fluid to rehydrate and pepcid. Then, the doc brought a quarter can of bland-diet food on a paper plate, which Buckley tore into.

He ate another quarter can last night and a half can this morning. He had a normal bowel movement later on and seemed to gradually perk up as the day progressed. He ate three-quarters of a can for dinner.

By mid-evening, he seemed much more like himself and I stopped worrying for the first time since Tuesday!

I guess I would follow up with a more detailed lyme test. Lyme is a bacteria that cycles (gets worse and better) and is best treated early on. I would want to make sure that, just because he's better, he doesn't have lymes.

but so glad he's better....

Yes, I'm planning to do that, just to make sure ...

Glad that Buckley is feeing better! And I hope you get some answers to his mystery illness. The ticks are bad in my area this year, we got our Lyme vaccine 8 weeks early just to cover any immune slump.
