I thought my Dyson died today!

I don't know if any one else has had this problem but I thought I would share it with you. I was vacuuming and my canister was full so I emptied it and put it back on the vacuum. I then switched my vacuum back on an nothing happened. I released the handle and the beater bars turned on but there was no suction. I tried turning it off and on a few times, and still the suction part didn't turn on. I was afraid the motor burned out. I called Dyson and she was filling out the paperwork for a service repair. She took quite a a long time thank goodness, I got so bored waiting, I pressed the power switch one more time and it started up. She then informed me there is a cut off switch if the motor gets too hot, from a clog, or a dirty filter et. (there is a filter? who knew!!) I have had my vacuum for two years and I had not cleaned it. I knew it needed something every six months so I have been handing it to my husband and he always brings it back after doing whatever he did to it, I didn't ask, and he say's, "there it should work better now". I don't think he ever cleaned the filter because you have to wash it, and wait for it to dry, so I would have noticed that. I don't think my filter has ever seen water, and it looked like it. Anyhow after the motor cools down it will turn back on. I wonder what the repair shop would have charged me to wash my filter? :coffeedrink:

I take my leaf blower to the dyson cannister once a month for a good blow out, works great but do it outside.............
I asked my husband what he has been doing to it, and he said he just blow's it out, I asked if he has ever cleaned the filter, "what filter" we both need this:kgo_017::lol:

I laughed today ours has been rebuilt for the second time, I know about the filters but the Dyson guy was telling me not to hoover up damp dog hairs in case it damages the motor.

If a £300 hoover cant tolerate some damp dog hair then why buy it, thank heavens it has a five year guarantee on it though. loved my old dysons but not struck on the dc14 model

Well the filter dried and I put it back in turned it on and OMG! It works like the day I got it. I had been complaining to my husband that it didn't seem to be sucking like it use to, :) I will wash that filter once a month from now on. Silly me!

Hmmmmmmm..............................

There once was a Blonde and a Dyson;
They vaccumed together and it was a niceon (hey poetic license)
Newfie Hair it did glom;
and Floggers with aplomb;
Until the fliter, it did aclog-up;
What was the poor Blonde to do;
Hair and Floogers askew;
the Blonde knew just what to do;
waited for the motor to cool;
and with a flip of the switch;
hair and floggs were amiss;
and the floor was aclean once more.

There is a small note on the part that unclips on top where the filter is. It shows a water spigot and says 3 months. I just washed mine today and washed out the canister since I have more mud than hair right now due to the rains and newfie feet that "defeet" the grass. I also found out there is a piece that comes off the side where the beater bar resides so you can pull out the beater bar and remove wound up newfie hair.
