 All my prayers
This brings tears to my eyes thinking of my beautiful Tobias.....Why do people do this do these beautiful creatures

Lots of positive thoughts, well wishes and prayers for this sad bear....And praying for lots of forever homes for all your other Rescues. I wish I could afford to bring some over here, we would have some great homes for them :(

Prayers and tears for this poor boy. Hope he makes it and finds a very loving home to make up for all the horror he's had in his life. Makes me so angry at people who do those kind of things.

So sad - thinking of your boy and all the other rescues. I thank you for the work you do, Susan. I don't think I could do it. I'd be a nervous wreck.

Am so sad to hear it may also be cancer, he has so much going against him. The sores and infection were one thing to overcome. Cannot find the original post about him, if there is one. But he is a sweetheart, Bruce keeps saying that all he wants is to be loved, he kept wanting petted. So sorry for him.

Update

This has been a VERY hard week. We almost lost one of our long term rescues and the one I posted about earlier in this thread as having turned the corner didn't make it. Its just very difficult when they seem to be doing so well, and make a major turn for the worse.....

Here's the details of an update for our current boy....I think NN prayers played a huge roll here....as well as his angel who brought him to us!

On a side note, please know we do not share specifics of where the dogs come from. This is because we need to keep a good relationship with them so they will work with us in potential future cases. As much as we would like for them to do better, it doesn't help to be critical and to point fingers. Rescue is about the dogs, not the people, and that must be kept as the top priority to help ALL dogs, not just the one in front of us. If we would share all the details and word got back to the original individuals they would never work with us again. So keeping the Newfs as our first priority, here is the 'good news'. ;)

He was doing very poorly on Thursday, Not wanting to move, not wanting to eat. X-ray'd his abd to be sure his retained testicle was not obviously cancerous, as he has a very high WBC. The rads only showed arthritis in his spine, from age? ....Or from an injury?

Urinalysis showed wall to wall WBC, so many so that it was layers upon layers on the slide when looked at under the scope for sediment.

Thurs he was put on IV fluids all day. He was also started on Carprofen (Rimadyl) since his liver and kidney values were all fine. He is HW neg! By the end of the day he seemed a bit more interested in life around him and even walked with a tiny bounce.

He's now on Carprofen twice a day in addition to Simplicef in the evenings. He is vastly improved, he will trot around the Vet yard with us, checking in to see where we are then go off to pee more. He still has to urinate multiple times, not marking, but more like a UTI type of pee.

Stool came back with whips so treating with Panacur. They can really deplete a dog too.

Dr K did not really want him moved until he is well rested, eating and has a spark, he felt too many changes at once were not optimal. We agree. He is starting to respond very well and we anticipate fully moving him into foster care in the early part of the week.

We are still feeding multiple small meals a day. He has gained weight, which is much needed.

Our honest feeling is that with the maggots/skin condition, the massive UTI, whips and being so severely underweight that he was struggling to keep one paw in front of the other. Not to mention impaired vision and ear infections. He was in pain and depleted. We are seriously not sure how much longer he would have held on if left. Not just because we have him, but because he was truly flat out. We think he finally has a place he feels safe, can honestly rest, relax, and is offered decent food and loving hands. he needed some time to replenish and start healing.

He is a gentle, true, good soul. A fabulous dog. His vision (cataracts) does not worry us. Everything else will heal in time.
Thank You for caring!
