(Week 14) Be careful what you wish for...you might get it

I thought I had the worlds best behaved Newfie. She never jumped on people or furniture and she never counter-surfed. Now, I think it was CCL laxity that prevented these hijinks, not my fabulous training techniques ...:coffeedrink:

Yesterday at 14 weeks post Traditional Repair of her left CCL, I realized the party is over.

First, in the morning, there was a big black poof of fuzz on my bed. Her stairs up to the bed were removed pre-op. She's pretty special but I don't think she can levitate.

Last evening I baked a cake and left it on the counter. The phone rang and I answered it in another room. Mid-conversation I heard soft slurping noises. OH-ooo! I got to the kitchen to find her flews deep in cream cheese icing with what can only be described as the dog equivilent of ecstacy on her face. :nono::nono:

She's getting pretty naughty and spoiled on this limited activity. She's leash walking for 30 minutes twice a day and she does underwater treadmill twice a week. It may be time to go back to gentle obedience training classes. Do you think it's too early to do a full class?

Edited: Ortho-dogs yahoo group suggest a FULL YEAR of restriction. A YEAR! Yikes what will she be getting into if she's this naughty at 3.5 months?

Must be really hard on you, but I am glad that she has recovered enough to cause those problems! :D

What you failed to remember is that you baked the cake for her. :) Glad she is feeling sprite enough to elevate her self to such heights :)

Hawk, her birthday was the 16th, she got low-fat blueberry frozen yogurt, meatballs and a R-I-D-E. She did not get C-A-K-E because her Dogtor Michelle says she has to keep her weight below 110 lbs. She's just being fresh and she knows it!

She had icing all over her face. I had to leave the room because I was laughing so hard even though she was B-A-D-dog!

Orthodogs have TONS of experience and have seen it all. :alc:... Thule had TPLO and that's different of course, but we definitely did a six month restriction.

LU! Take it easy on your momma!!!

Well, Mama, it's YOUR fault for leaving that cake out for that sweet girl. I mean, really? How is she supposed to resist?? :!rolling:

She just wanted to make sure it was safe for everybody to eat.
She is also turning slowing into the "juvenile delinquent" stage. Then after that there is also the "terrible two's". After that you are just about out the woods. Once the hit 3 years old there is only the occasional flareup of the mischievous side of the newf.
Have fun, it will get better.

She's making up for lost time and if she's genetically programmed like Jill, you can forget stopping the counter surfing. :D

Ah-hah! I knew they were related! Sorry, but like Ginny said-I believe these girls are genetically pre-disposed to food stealing. The other day River (who used to be afraid of children, remember) loved-up to my nephew, and then oh-so-gently reached up under his hands and relieved him of 1/2 a Belgian waffle he was munching on. Any opportunity!

Lulu, be nice to your mama. She's taken such good care of you. No more levitating or counter-surfing. Although I am glad you're feeling better...

I'm secretly delighted she's getting the strength to blow off some steam vertically (hoping the other CCL holds) and indulge her inner countersurfing demon. I'll have to be vigilent that she doesn't overdo it.

After viewing Ginny's Addy and Hazel jumping for the stream from the hose, I'm beginning to think I missed a clue to an impending problem. If your Newf doesn't "get some air" once in a while they might have a CCL weakness.

Whooo hoooo! I love a naughty newf! Especially one who has had crutiate repairs :) Well, I have Seamus after all. He has been full of mischief since he's lost the weight. I think his knees feel good. He's back to the rascal I got when he was 11 months old. They gotta make up for lost time, ya know. And I'm pretty sure he's been sending secret messages to his girl Lulu. They are in on this together. Keep it up Lu...give the mama a run for her money. I don't want to be standing alone.
