Tank spay and vulvaplasty

Tank was spayed and also had a vulvaplasty on Monday. Since she has another UTI infection since her heat cycle, her vet wanted to go ahead and spay her and also fix her vuvla. Apparently she had alot of extra skin and tissue around the vulva that they believe has been causing all of her UTIs.
I just brought her home today at 2pm. She is doing horrible. Her spay does not seem to bother her but her vulvaplasty seems so uncomfortable. I finally got her to go out and pee and that was such an ordeal.
I am wondering if yall have been through this and also when she may be feeling better.

Julie,
Hugs to you and Tank. I can hear your concern in your words. I am so sorry Tank is not feeling well. I have no experience with this so I am of no help, but I sure hope someone else can give you help or at least reassure you.

Did they send any pain med home with her? If not maybe you should call and get something for her just for tonight and the next day or so......
Hugs for both of you.......

Poor Tank! Our vet has mentioned that procedure for Sydney as she gets quite a few UTI's also. We haven't done it yet though. Is she on any pain meds? Would ice help in that area? I can imagine she is afraid of going pee, poor girl. Sending her hugs.

They sent home a sedative that we can use twice a day, pain meds every six hours, and rimadyl to reduce swelling and inflamation, and of course she is still on the clavamox for the UTI. She did pretty good last night. She went out at 1am and did her business. At least she is sleeping her. At the vet's they said that she could not get settled and was very restless. I am doing a cold compress for her every few hours. Thank you for all the love. I have been so nervous about her having this operation.

I hope Tank feels better soon. I know you must be stressed worrying about her. Hera's vet has made the same comment about her...that she might need the vulvaplasty. She's had so many UTI's over the past year. I feel like she lived on antibiotics there for a while. Someone has recommended that I start giving her methionine to help prevent the UTI's.

Best wishes for a speedy recovery for your sweet Tank. It's hard when your baby is in pain. All the meds should be helping her calm down soon. I think it may take a while to build up in the system and work it's best.

Ah, the things we do for our sweet newfs! Bags of frozen peas for the boys' bits and ice bags for the girls' parts.......
Glad to hear that Tank is resting better now. Probably a relief to her to discover she can still pee.
Next couple of days should show more improvement. Hugs to you and Tank from me and sloppy kisses from Gabe and the girls...

Tula had her anal glands removed recently. Different procedure, but same area and very uncomfortable. It was a long two weeks! She was on antibiotics and previcox. We also had some pain meds. Pottying was a nightmare for about four days. We were able to keep her from biting at the area by being w/ her during the day, but used a cone for night time. Hope this helps a little - hang in there - it will heal! Kim and Tula
