Ah...that's a stresser for sure. Hang in there and know this was for the best. Sounds like your vet is right on top on things. Hugs to you and to Riley.

We went in yesterday to try for surgery again, but again, no. Infection not quite cleared up enough to operate. We're gonna try again for next Tuesday. We increased his antibiotic dose and I'm washing his poor shaved leg with chlorhexaderm shampoo every other day. He's also on a low dose of Tramadol to take the edge off the pain. Vet did some research after I told him about the Rimadyl incident, and said "NO NSAIDS FOR THIS NEWFIE" We'll handle inflammation some other way.

Riley is an amazing boy. He has a great attitude and is behaving well....other than sticking his face in my lunch plate and eating my chips. We sit outside and he is fairly quiet, just watching and barking at the squirrels instead of trying to eradicate them from existance. He told Skye to take care of his light work....lizard hunting, and she is more than happy to comply.

I'll be so happy to have the surgery (successfully) and get him on the road to recovery. We have a good rehab plan in place and I'm anxious to get started.

I think I'll be buying some gold pumps to help through the rehab! and some Grey Goose.:alc:

After much research, it has been determined that this is the absolute best way to deal with this situation.

I am sorry you both have to wait another week, but am glad your Riley Boy is handling it so well.

Sounds like you've got it covered Sheila! Glad the Vet is so on top of things. It sounds like he's very careful about Riley's well being.

Sheila, I hope Riley sails thru the surgery and recovery. Sounds like you have a very good Vet, that's a HUGE plus!!! Best wishes for a speedy recovery, I hope it happens soon, for your sake-waiting is SO hard!

The waiting is the hardest part when you just want to get it over with and have the healing begin. And these big guys are so patient which makes it heart breaking too. Sounds like you have an excellent vet on board. Riley has a good team behind him and he will be just fine. We are all here with you on this one. Hugs to you both!!!!
