Riley update...

The surgery is postponed. While he was being shaved for the surgery, the doc noticed that Riley had chewed himself (ostensibly from the pain) and the wound was beginning to get infected. He is not willing to take a chance on the bacteria spreading (THANK DOG!), so my boy will go on a round of anti-biotics and the surgery will be rescheduled for next week.

Jen...I don't know how you went through all you went through with Murphy. I'm cracking up already.

I think he chewed because I stopped giving him the Rimadyl. I noticed he was't peeing normally after two doses, so I stopped giving it to him.

I think I feel my ulcer.

Sheila, I am sorry you will have to prepare yourself all over again, but at least you have a good vet that is looking out for Riley's best interest

Well now, you know it HAD to be something... "Murphy's" Law!! LOL!!

It will be fine.... just a small delay.. be thankful you don't have to wait MONTHS!

Kelly, you are so right.

While I was there with Riley this morning, this lady came in with a medium sized mixed breed who couldn't put any weight on her left rear. I asked the lady if her dog had knee problems too, and she replied yes...she brought her dog in to have her previous surgery repaired. WHAT!!!! I started to panic, but then the lady said that another vet had screwed up the first surgery, and Dr. Hay was going to fix it. Yeesh.

Yeah...I'm waiting on Mama's little helpers, Teri!

OK... better safe than sorry. And all of this points to one thing - you picked a good vet! :D

Good Vet! I'm glad that he postponed, but sorry that you have to sit on pins and needles for another week.

Still sending good thoughts for Riley!

Sorry to hear about the delay, especially with the stress of all this. Glad the doc is watching out for the best interest of a successful surgery.

Like others have typed, better safe than sorry.

Well, at least this is just a minor bump in the road - everything happens for a reason. I wish I had "mother's little helpers" going thru Lacy's two surgeries. I got my first grey hairs instead...

Sorry that it was delayed, but it is for the best. Better to be safe and gain a few more gray hairs than be going through complications because of infection. :hugs:
