While walking Bailey on our property I notice a pair of ducks in our pond. I was too busy looking at them to watch my step and walked into a sunken part of the ground and twisted my ankle. Down I went and where was my newfy? Running in the opposite direction. Did my fall scare him? Nope, he saw this as the perfect opportunity to finish the pile of poop he was chased out of this morning! Luckily I am not injured, but he could have at least checked.

Ah, poor baby didn't know you were really hurt. He loves you lots and is so sorry he missed taking care of you. He thought you were just playing games with him.

  ......Sometimes it is better they keep walking..........Other scenario is you down with dogs all over you slobbering "can we help". And you can't stop laughing, so you cannot get up :)

I agree with Ronnie. When they stay they think you're playing and take you being "down" as an opportunity to wrestle, and trounce, and slobber all over you. The more you laugh, the worse they get, then after being rolled all over the lawn, you're the one covered in that poop! he he he

That is just about what Snuffles did when I slipped on the ice a couple of years ago. But I am happy to say I think he realized I was in major pain, because he just laid down by me afte I told him no.

Yep count yourself as lucky. When I went down and actually broke my ankle, Cole figured since I was on the ground it must be playtime. I struggled to get up off the ground by holding onto the water spigot and hobbled about 100 feet to the back door (and up 3 steps) with an over 100 pound puppy jumping on me and wanting to play.

When I fell and broke my ankle 5 weeks ago, I had to call EMS since I'm alone and drive a standard shift car. Little did I know the Police would come too. Luckily, the officer was a dog person who assessed that I might be at the hospital for awhile and offered to take my dogs out to do their business until someone could come and stay with them.

Do you think Lulu gave a hoot that I was down? NO....she took one look at the cruiser and jumped into the front seat wanting to go for a ride! It was Lili, my little protector GSD, that stayed by my side.

Do you have room to rehab 2 'rescue newfs' in St. Johns, Deb?

Tricia, what luck to get a caring officer and I would expect nothing less of a GSD. Very nice dogs.

Thanks everyone else for showing me that Bailey was doing me a favor by not jumping and slobbering on me. Guess I'll keep him after all.

I don't know about elsewhere but here the police always come with the ambulance or paramedics. I couldn't figure out why so asked- too many phony calls looking for drugs on the ambulances, too much danger for the attedants. Same problem my vet said he had. Would not answer the door after hours, call and tell him you're coming. Vets attacked for the drugs too.
