We thought we were out of the woods, but it doesn't look that way.
When they brought Willis to us when he was ready to go home after surgery nearly three weeks ago, he started bleeding. They bandaged him and he dripped for a day or two, but that subsided. Mind you we have followed instructions to the letter: penned except potty breaks, using a sling, no excess activity, wearing a cone, etc. Then the huge seroma formed. I started warm compresses, religiously. I was concerned because the seroma had been there almost two weeks (size of half a tennis ball) and took him to see my local vet (surgeon is in another town) last Friday. She said the incision looked great, and because the big time swelling had gone down by the time we saw her, we were relieved. She gave us the all clear to start walking him.
We started walking him last Friday night. He was bearing weight on the leg and seeming to enjoy the walks. Monday he seemed a bit hesitant to go on the evening walk. Yesterday he seemed OK with the walks, but last night I noticed the weeping. It was mainly clear, with a slight blood tinge, but he was leaving big wet spots all over the sheet in his pen. It has no odor to it. This morning it's weeping and still slightly blood tinged. I call the surgeon and they want me to bring him in tomorrow. I call my local vet and see if there is something I should be doing in the meantime because I don't want to wait until tomorrow if something could be done to help now. They want to see him today to take temperature and start antibiotics.
I am a total and complete wreck. Anyone with experience able to give any advice? If no advice, please send us your good thoughts and pray that he will get through this.
