She seems to be doing really well. I've been with her all afternoon and she hasn't cried hardly at all. She is limping post surgery exactly the same as she was pre-surgery. I'm impressed. I thought she'd come home on three legs, but she's putting some weight on the forth leg.
She hasn't bothered the wound at all... yet. So I haven't had to put her new e-collar on her (got a nice soft one that looks like one of those old disk sleds kids use to go snow sledding.) I'm going to make her sleep with it though so I don't go neurotic with every noise she makes.
For now, I have several things I'm managing with her. I have to ice her knee 4 - 6 times per day for 15 - 20 min. (particularly after the walking part of the rehab)
I am to walk her slow enough where she is weight bearing on her injured leg for no more and no less than 5 minutes, twice a day.
I am to massage her thigh muscle (and her ankle if the swelling goes down that far) for a few minutes (I've been doing this immediately before her stretching exercises.
And - I have several exercises.... moving her paw back and forth slowly, gently extending and straightening the surgical knee, holding the upper leg - move the lower leg back and forth at the knee (slowly and just until I feel resistance) and extend the hip allowing the knee and ankle to straighten naturally. All of these are to be repeated 15 times each, 3 times per day.
But so far, so good. Tomorrow might be a bit more of a challenge when she isn't so tired from the last 24 hours.
