Sept. 12 my Husband passed from a heart attack, very quickly, and very unexpected right before the homecoming football game that we had just entered to watch our grand son play.
I still work, and Mike was home all day with our dogs, and talked to them like humans, amazing how many words they really do comprehend. When Mike went on his fishing trips to Canada, our Newf (Sully) would constantly look for him, and never stop, and whenever myself, or my children, or grandchildren would come in before him, he would be happy to see all of us, but look around us for his "Dad". Mike adored Sully like a child. After Mike's passing I thought it would be heartbreaking to watch Sully constantly look for Mike. I was going through the bag of clothes the hospital sent home, and in it was the sweatshirt he had cut off of him at the football game to shock his heart. I laid the sweatshirt on the floor, and Sully smelled, and smelled the sweatshirt, and after that he no longer looked for Mike, he knew.
I just wanted to let you know that if you loose a loved one that your Newf is attached to I firmly believe if you do this they understand from the smell. My loving Sully surely did.
My daughter, who is not fond of the slobbers was in Mike's room looking for something, and she laid down and cried, and Sully went up, licked her face, and laid down beside her. He is now her ew best friend. Her daughter loves Sully, so she always knew if something happened to both of us she would have him, of course I have a good friend that would want him also, but my daughter said that my granddaughter would never stand for that. I don't know what I would do without him now.
