3 A.M. in the middle of a blizzard, and guess who gets it in his furry head that he just HAS to go out?

Well, six hours later it appears funny... He managed, I did see a tiny yellow spot in the area where he was floundering around. Poor guy, we had an 18" drift by the back door and he's only 29" high! He didn't stay out there for long, that's for sure....

And on the eighth day, dOG created the extra heavy duty, 26 foot long Flexi-lead for pre-dawn, blizzard potty trips. And he said: " yay, you shall stand inside the door and let thy doggie out into the raging night, just far enough to relieve himself of his burden and thy slippers shall not get wet." and he saw that it was good

You completely crack me up !!!! :fce32f95:

I think it was the first winter Snuffles was with us, we had a blizzard. I was using a 16 ft flex lead at the time. I was hoping Snuffles would poop in the plowed road, but no such luck. He took off to the highest drift he could find I think. LOL. He still tries to find deep snow when the urge comes and there is snow.

I remember there were a set of pictures on newf.net of a fenced yard taken from like a second story window several years ago. What had happened was the snow was so deep, the newf could just step over the fence and got away. The arial view showed the path.

Harley was out on his 50 foot tether. He didn't get more than ten feet from the door. Poor guy could hardly move.... lol!

Sorry to hijack your thread Kobutso...but that 'blizzard' was 3 inches of snow and frozen sleet with 60mph winds here. Yuck! I would have paid the dogs to pee on the deck but NO...they had mosey about to pick the exact 'right' spot to take care of business, exactly 26 feet from the slider. Of course there was the obligatory shake the sleet on the person who was desperately trying to remain dry inside.

Only on NN would one say "he is *only* 29" high".

Why overseas do you guys always have the dogs on leads, are your gardens not fenced?
Multi-unit housing. I have a fenced deck but the area beyond is common property. The Condo Association frowns on dogs running loose. Actually, they frown on dogs period but the by-laws allow them. Here, for the poops that live inside, the poops outside must never be seen.

Garden? 85% of Maine is forest. I just let him out in "emergencies" on the tether, the rest of the time, he's on leash... except for special times where he can run free at the "beach" (Maine). You also gotta keep an eye on the tides, there's nothing worse than a hairy knucklehead wallowing in the mud flats...

We've got a lot of wildlife around and Harley goes after 'em. We've seen packs of coyotes on the road at night, coons, skunks (remember the skunk?) deer, turkey even the odd moose around. I don't want him tangling with the local wildlife so he stays on leash.
