I wrote this "How to Type Faster" blog/review and it made me wonder - how fast can you type? You can test at http://www.typingtest.com/

I can type 65 words per minute while copying existing text - easily double that when typing stream of consciousness.

How fast can you type? Have you ever taken classes or anything to learn to type faster?

Here's a pic of my dirty old IBM AT keyboard from 1984. Still the best keyboard I've ever used.

Yep, took typing for 2 years. Haven't checked how many wpm that I can do now though. I would imagine if I were copying text it would exceed 65 wpm, unless it was a whole bunch of numbers!

I..in high school..could type..waitforit..32 words per min. error free!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Yes..that is why..after the typing class was over for the year..I was told, NEVER become a sec., write everything longhand..and pay people to transcribe......sigh..sniffle..creeping away now. ina n HB n Kesa

On average 35-45 words per minute. I took one semester of typing in high school, my intention was so that I would know the keyboard for computers.

Ok, I took the test, and this was while trying to get Maggie to not eat the cat....

75 wpm. You all realize I'm going to spend my entire evening trying to beat that score. As corny as it sounds, I love to type. I would love to do something that just allowed me to type all day long-I work on a computer now, but there's a lot of customer service involved (banking) and in real estate, there isn't a lot of typing unless you're emailing a client.

Never any training, just learned to type spending waaayy too much time on the internet. I type 50 wpm copying text with a dachshund in my lap. I am sure it would be faster if it was my own stream of thought sans dachshund.

I've had a computer since I was 8 and had some general computer classes in school. Taking the test on the link you provided I had 80 wpm. In high school I tested at over 100 wpm.

After adjusting for typos, it said I was typing 62 wpm.

I took one 6 week "touch typing" course after high school, and then typed sporadically until the age of computers hit. Now I'm typing much more often.

Fastest I have clocked on that typing test is 85 wpm...I've taken it a few times over the last couple of years. But I know I can type faster when it's my thoughts I am typing....
A good keyboard is EVERYTHING. I miss my old IBM selectric...LOVED that keyboard. I took one year of typing in high school...and then worked in a Newspaper office for a year. That was just as we started to use computers instead of an old typesetting machine...the old machine had a nicer keyboard!
A couple of years ago I took a medical transcription course..and I could type as fast as I could understand what they were saying..which at times was MIGHTY frustrating. OK, and here's to dating ones self...the typewriter I learned on was not even electric...And the keys stood up like little soldiers..on little steel rods :)

51wpm but I felt weird the whole time I was typing. I do application development so I very rarely type words, it's mostly code. I'm sure with a little practice I could type much faster.

OK, 73 WPM with 100% accuracy. I can do better on a real keyboard. I'm typing on my laptop and the keyboard is smaller than I like.

I also had a keyboard like that, GAD. Loved it too!

I can type about 50 WPM. I r gradmeiated from the skool of Hunt & Peck. In the service, I learned to type fast. The louder the Sergeant yelled, the faster I learned to type.........LOL. No not really, but I just learned the Ted System of typing. I mainly type with only four fingers, and thumbs, and can go pretty fast.

Used to work with a man who held the keyboard in his left hand and hunted with his right. He hunted even if he had just typed the letter he was now looking for. Some folks used to try and tell him that the letter hadn't been moved but it didn't seem to sink in. I too go back to the pre-electric days. My Dad's secretary had the first electric typewriter in town when EVERY key was a repeating key. Talk about difficult. Took a long while to get the touch for that one.
