How Fast Can You Type?

I typed 83 words per minute with one error - so my adjusted typing speed was 82 wpm.

I think I'll try it again, I know I can do better than that!!!

79 wpm this morning. I also type faster when I'm typing my own thoughts versus an essay about tigers. Everything just flows faster. Keyboarding classes were mandatory in middle school and high school for me. When I was in high school it was word processing and typing mostly...now my little brother is taking programming classes in high school. I wonder how fast people can type on their phones :)

Tonight I was 89 wpm. Last typing test I took I was 105. I am going to spend the rest of the night trying to get back up to 105. Thanks for helping me waste an entire evening!

OK, and here's to dating ones self...the typewriter I learned on was not even electric...And the keys stood up like little soldiers..on little steel rods :)
:!rolling::!rolling::!rolling:Oh....I can relate to that. Once upon a time I could type 160 wpm with no errors. I did 125 wpm. Hmm....with some practice, I probably could get back up there. I also play the piano so I think that helps with the brain to hand coordination.

Oh Cindy that speed was on the newer electronic typewritters. There was no way I could have worked up to that speed on the old manuals (mine was a Royal). You had to pound those things to get any action!!!!

It is much easier to type faster with headphones on and doing dictation. It is much harder to type from a text version such as this. My fingers fly when doing dictation such as the Medical Transcription schooling i did. BTW do not fall into the trap of online MT. It is a joke what they pay you.

You actually worked at it? I completed the course...and then never even applied for the jobs...it all seemed pretty pointless.

YEs i did. The only job i could pick up was typing Vet reports for a veterinary office. But the pay! UGGGG for all the time you put into it just does not equal what i am getting at the job i have now.
It is a very challenging profession. She put me on a doctor for human radiology, i could not understand hardly two words he was dictating and my boss was not happy about that. They really do not have patience for people to get a "trained ear"

SO true about the medical transcription pay. I am lucky that I work for local doctors and don't have to take that third-party pay (sweatshop stuff) of $.07 per line.

I typed 175 WPM in college and am going to take this test here later. (It is easier to type faster when transcribing; I agree with that!)

Two hospitals in town here are turning that route! .07 cents per line. After your initial training period!!!! What an outrage! Several of their girls quit. I think it is due to the dragon program, they figure since a lot of what they are doing now is mainly editing for mistakes it is less pay for less effort!

I worked for a national company at that pay for a year. And, we always had different dictators from different hospitals from different states. We rarely got the same doctor, so we could NOT build any speed. And, many of them were from foreign countries, so understanding them was impossible. Since my two partners and I were able to get our own docs, we have a good thing going. BUT, they plan to go to electronic speech recognition soon, so we might be out of luck. I am now taking a speech recognition editing course....

I took that danged test on-line and here is my score. It really is hard to do it w/o listening to the words, but just reading them. I refuse to try to improve it or I will become obsessed with it!

Your adjusted speed of 91 WPM was 153% above the average 36 WPM.
