Hobbies?

Everyone has such great hobbies and pictures of them..

I crochet - but not very well, I only know 3 stitches and simply do them over and over again to make plain, boring - but warm blankets.

I do woodwork - mostly carpentry, but I do some artistic woodburning as well (but lack the good quality equipment to do it well).

I write, I WAS working on a novel, but seem to be better at short stories.

We do a lot of remodeling/home improvements on the houses we've lived in. We started our kitchen remodel on this house about 5 years ago, beginning with replacing the tile floor with tongue-in-groove 5/8 thick oak boards (unfinished wood...had to then sand and finish it).

Then we started designing and building kitchen cabinets out of oak-faced plywood (for the body of the cabinets) and solid oak (faces, trim, doors and drawer fronts).

Cabinet that the kitchen sink sits in...before the doors went on:

Twin pantry cabinets with deep drawers on bottom half...these are unfinished, without drawer fronts. We made very sturdy drawers, with dove-tailed joints, then used sliders that would support 150 pounds and slide the drawers completely out.

Here, after the varnish and drawer fronts were added. Still working on the doors to go on the top half. Those will be like pie-safe doors...like frames with punched metal faces.

It's still a work in progress, mainly because there's only so many weekends to do the work...and now that we've got a new hobby...we haven't done much on the kitchen in a while......

Chris buys old Porsche 928's and does all the mechanicals on them, to get them road-worthy again. I've got to admit that I like this hobby of his...I ended up with my own 928, and it's a lot of fun to drive! We now have three red 928's and our son has a 944.

"My" 928, on its way to our house, prior to the clean up and mechanicals.

Interior in great shape, only needed a bit of cleaning to make it look practically new:

Engine...32 valve V8:

All done, and a lot of fun!

My so many people and so many different hobbies. And some are so creative
I love vegetable gardening and just general gardening.............Our garden is two acres, but very much free form native gardening with lots of trees, But here is our veg garden in early Spring

And I love our horses, my hobbie, but Hubby gets paid for a lot of it.
Anything to do with cattle work or trail-riding and Quarter horses ofcourse
This is me on my horse Brady, who will just about do anything, from Dressage to chasing a cow to Polo..........He was a rescue horse. And Hubby on Doc, who was considered a maniac. He was going to the "dog food" market, another rescue

And my hero...................Ray Hunt.............Who gave us the "tools" to help a lot of troubled horses

And this is Doc in his first week at home............Ride him Cowboy.........

Well I have no pics of it but I am singing again in the Church choir (yay!).

I am also hoping to become a gardener this coming spring/summer. I've never undertaken ANYTHING like that ...but it should be fun.

Does Charlotte count as a hobby? ;-)

Oh yeah, I sew... and will post some pics of some of the stuff I've made later.

W.ell, outside od the dogs and a little gardening I have no time or talent. My mother, aunt and my cousin were and are artistically talented. My grandmother painted china for a living and I have lots of it. Me, nothing. Complained one time to my cousin who spins, weaves, plays oboe, does mime etc.etc. Her response- "you can do lots of things I can't Emmie Lou". Me- name one. Cousin- "Ride a bicycle". Picture me picking self up off the floor laughing :!rolling::!rolling:Somehow didn't seem to equate!

just remember we can all do one thing really well, so even if it might be something as daft as artisitically grooming the dogs it's still a hobbie

We collect Carnival Glass
I love Carnival Glass! When we were cleaning out my grandparents' house, I found a couple of bowls stuck in a drawer. I looked them up in one of the books about Carnival Glass and I think the one is very rare. I also found some Heisey Cobalt Depression Glass in the back of the china cabinet. It was a set of 12 tumblers.
Is that your collection behind your wife?

Hmmm... I've tried a lot of things over the years: Batik, stained glass, painting, beadwork, scrapbooking, but...
The only thing I've been able to do this last year is CONSTRUCTION and HORTICULTURE:

I'll be working on learing Belly Dancing come the new year... Something that doesn't involve wood, shovels or crushed limestone LOL

You mean there is more to life than sleep, working and newfs?

Seriously I like photography (still learning), reading and riding my bike.

I've tried a lot of things, but my longest and ongoing hobby is at the other end of 18th century living history. Been doing it now for about 18 years, off and on. I volunteer at a local historic home as a tour guide. Last night I spent 5 hours on my feet for our annual Candle Light tour. I find that to be able to touch and talk to people, especially children, is very rewarding. I get as much from my school groups as I give. Echo was scheduled to portray Seaman when Lewis and Clark returned to Locust grove in the national celebration in 2006, but she blew out her knee and we had to find a sub. Also, now, I have two grand daughters (2-1/2 and 1-1/2) and a third little girl on the way. They keep me jumping. We're decorating Christmas cookies today.

I love photography, perennial gardening and scrapbooking. I also collect quilts. I don't quilt (my Mom does) but I have a special interest in unique quilts...I have close to 20 of them so far. I also enjoy reading...

I have the potential to have hobbies but the kids, dogs, and computer take that time away!

My Grandma taught me how to crochet, but only the very basics. I inherited her box of crochet hooks, which is very special to me, because I remember being little and her getting this box out to teach me. I also inherited all her sewing things, sewing machine, quilting stuff, etc. There is a quilt she started all it need is a back and the stuffing. I want to complete that quilt one day, but only after I have learned what I am doing. She didn't teach me how to sew, but Jamie knows how and so does his Mom. So one day I will complete that quilt, and it will be the only quilt that Grandma and I made!! She also loved to garden, both vegetables and flowers.

Like I said, I have the potential, but I'm not ready just yet. There is one item in the boxes of sewing stuff that still brings me to tears. It's my Grandma's pin cushion that she wore on her wrist. I used to tease her about it being a piece of jewelry because she wore it all the time. :)

You are all very inspiring with your hobbies! Who knows maybe I'll get started sooner rather than later!
