    Lyme Disease vaccination

Willow goes Wednesday for her yearly vaccinations. Going through the list she will get (or the vet recommends I should say) he has a Lyme Disease vac. recommendation on there. Is this a very common occurrence in dogs? I'm asking because money is tight at the moment and the cost of the shot is...

    Hair falling out

Willow was spayed last month and since then her hair has continued to fall out by the bucket full. She looks more like a lab than a newf. I can't tell you how many vacuum cleaner bags I have gone through. Are these two things related? I guess I need assurance that her long coat will...

I tried to rescue a Newfie this week.

A lady I work with has a neighbor that has 2 children, ages 10 and 11 plus a 14 month old Newfie/Great Pry mix dog named Elvis. Long story short, the kids were playing in the house with a bunch of other kids. They came barreling up from the basement, knocked over the Newfie (named Elvis)...

    Bad Willow or bad me.

Good thing I'm so easy going...Willow chewed up my glasses. They we on the end table while I was laying on the couch and fell asleep. Now I can't find one of the lenses. Grrrrrrrr..puppies are over-rated. I certainly can't imagine her swallowing the missing lens??

    Wooly puppies

Did your puppies have long hair? I was a puppy class last night when a man with a male newf asked me if I shaved Willow? His puppy at 11 weeks has long fluffy hair. Willow's is rather short and not fluffy at all, except on her head. Got me wondering if hers will grow out eventually.

    Anyone hear a Newfie that

hasn't blown out a hip, knee, brain, nose? I'm sort of kidding. But after being here for a while and reading all the medical injuries, I'm wondering how many of you have had the good luck of having a very healthy Newf. This is my first experience with the breed, and now I'm almost paranoid.

    Puppy kindegarten class

Willow (and I) start classes tonight. I'm looking forward to it. I'm sure she is going to think it's one big free for all. Hah! We also go to "Puppy Social" Sunday afternoons - its a chance to let all different types of pooches play and socialize. Willow was very good the first time there...

Can you stand more snowdog pics

We had 12" here in beautiful Oconomowoc, WI overnight. It's hard to photograph a black dog against all that white. Especially when she won't "pose" nicely.

    Puppies and the protein debate

The breeder I purchased Willow from had her on Iams Large Breed puppy food. When the dog food scare happened last year, I did a lot of research into the commercial dog foods and was not impressed with what I found out about Iams. So while doing the research for a new food, Origen large breed...

Proper way to stop puppy from biting

My 10 week old is a holy terror when it comes to biting. Nothing I am trying seems to have any impact on her. What has worked for you? I would appreciate some guidance. Thanks

    My first Newfie

Hi all, I'm Susan from Oconomowoc, WI. I am the proud owner of a 10 week old female Newfie named Willow. I'm a life long dog owner but have always had English Springer Spaniels. When my adored Springer Brisco died this past June, I took a while to read of on a couple of different dog breeds...
