My first Newfie

Hi all,
I'm Susan from Oconomowoc, WI. I am the proud owner of a 10 week old female Newfie named Willow. I'm a life long dog owner but have always had English Springer Spaniels. When my adored Springer Brisco died this past June, I took a while to read of on a couple of different dog breeds that I always wanted to bring into our house. A friend alerted me to a breeder she knew that just had a litter of 10 Newf pups. Newfies were on my short list so I didn't hesitate.

I look forward to taking the time to read the many threads on this forum and getting to know many of you.

Welcome! and she is very cute! We have another newf named "Willow" on Newf Net. I love that name, so we can't have too many!

Seems to be a popular name. The breeder informed me that another person who purchased 1 of his females, also named her Willow. Naming a dog is a difficult endeavor. I had a list of about 25 names.

Tell me about it! I'm getting my first newf in January and you should see the lists we had before we picked the name for our boy!

Thank you. I can't tell you how hard it was to lose Brisco. I lost his brother Beasley about 8 months previous. Brisco went so fast. He was diagnosed with Lymphoma on a Tuesday and by Friday, he died on my bedroom floor. As a friend told me, this is the cost you pay for all the love they bring to our lives.

Welcome from Virginia. Be aware that it's reeeeally hard to stop at just one newf. Soon, you'll be going back for a second or third! :)

We will be looking for a male sometime early spring or summer, so the second is already in the planning stage.

Thanks to all for the nice welcome!
