    hot spots!! arrggghhhh!!!

Hi all, haven't been using the forum much lately but I am in need of help. Quinn, now age 15 mos. has hot spots. He's been to the vet and we have tried just about every "cure" known to man. Most are hard and dry and he leaves them alone and they are all over his body. Head, neck, back, back...

Help me analyze this newf behavior

My 18 year old son, Will, was diagnosed at birth with a rare disorder called Cornelia deLange Syndrome. Will has multiple severe handicaps such as mental retardation, no speech, vision and hearing impairments and bi-lateral arm and hand deformities. He is also very small. He's about 75 pounds...

    Non swimming newfs?

Do most newfs know how to swim instinctively, or do they have to be taught? ARe there newfs who can't swim? Today Quinn went in a pond a bit deeper than he normally dares. He looked like he was going to go under but he somehow managed to pull himself up and out. I thought I was going to...

I asked this question in my newf only obedience class this week

Is it possible to train a newf without the use of a choke or prong collar? My newf is only 7 mos old, and he's my first. Ideally, I'd like to train without, especially because I'd like to get him involved with dog therapy and those collars can't be used in testing. I have to say, Quinn is...

Help me understand what's going on..

I have two dogs(first time I've owned more than one). One is 12(lab mix from the shelter) and one is 6 month old newf. Both males. I took them both for heartworm test at the vet today and ended up leaving my old guy there for grooming. He had a full bath and blow out, ears cleaned, toes...

    Ticks...already

We're in upstate NY, just south of the Adirondack Park. We're just barely out of winter. Last night I found 20+ ticks on Quinn's head. He had been on trails at a local park. I'm shocked they are out this early. March 14th!!!

    Restless nights

Anyone else have a restless newf at night? Quinn is 6 months old and is awake almost every night from about 11 or so to about 2 or so. He sighs and whines, flips and flops..just can't seem to get comfortable. He's not crated, has a couple of options for beds...but of course just wants to...

    vacuum cleaners

Perhaps this is an often repeated thread..but I was wondering what vacuum cleaners you experienced newfers use to vacuum newf hair. I'm due for a new one and want one that is excellent at picking up pet hair. Thanks!!

It's a good thing he is cute..

because he's lacking a bit in intelligence. Quinn follows me from room to room nearly all day. This morning I was collecting laundry and slid down the back stairway without him noticing. As I am putting clothes in the machine I hear him barking/whining/crying and can't figure out why he...

    Quinn's skin

Hi all, Quinn(4 months) is having skin troubles. He's on a raw diet(which I thought was supposed to help with the skin). He had a vet appt yesterday and she thought it was an allergy to flea bites because the hot spots and itching are predominately on his back end. I do see him scratching...
