Help me understand what's going on..

I have two dogs(first time I've owned more than one). One is 12(lab mix from the shelter) and one is 6 month old newf. Both males.

I took them both for heartworm test at the vet today and ended up leaving my old guy there for grooming. He had a full bath and blow out, ears cleaned, toes done and anal glands done.

When we(me and the newf) picked him back up the newf went crazy. Whining and licking the lab mix all over. He hasn't let up since..nearly 3 hours of whining at him, sniffing him all over, licking him and now barking at him.

What the heck?

I'd say the old guy has so many new and unusual smells on him from people touching him to shampoo, alcohol, etc. that the Newf is checking to see if he is okay and what he's been up to. My girls check each other out for quite some time every time one of them goes to the vet or even gets a bath.

Mine do that every time we come home from being groomed--hump, hump, hump.

Maybe the newf is jealous and is saying, I want to be all groomed up too?

Happens all the time here when they come from the groomer, or the Vet, or we come back from a show, etc. It's all of the new smells!!
