Hi all...I haven't been on too much in the last two months...a lot going on, mainly the BMNC 25th Anniversary draft test...my first time as chair. It was a lot of work but went perfectly!
A few people have PM'd me about Marcus...thank you... so I thought I would update what is going on.
We had a scare in early November. Sunday morning we woke up and as the day progressed, Marcus had his eyes closed...not gooky or a cold in his eyes but rather like they were sensitive to light...of course it was a Sunday so off to the emergency vet. He tested positive for Lyme...even though he is on Frontline plus every three weeks and does not spend a lot of time outdoors. The vet prescribed a steroid drop for his eyes and Doxycycline for 26 days. She said that the sensitive eye is a not often seen sign of Lyme.
After 2.5 weeks on the Doxycycine (which Marcus has never been on) he developed what we thought was a UTI...which he has has often, but this one was different...he couldn't hold his urine at all and urinated in the house...something he has not done since he was 11 weeks old. He was so upset and embarrased. He was also drinking copius amounts of water. The urine test came back negative so we checked his kidney levels...both his Bun and Crea were slightly elavated and it was recommended we have an ultrasound of his kidneys. This was a week before the draft test so we decided to wait until right after as the vet is a distance from us. The strange thing is 3 days after we finished the Doxycyline...all symptoms went away...and we just had his kidney levels checked and they are back in the normal range. Our vet says that Doxycyline does not effect the kidney function but can't explain why the levels are back in the normal range.
Marcus's LP is still an issue though better than in the heat and humidity, he still breathes very heavily and "roars" 10-12 times a day...we are doing chiropractic care and will start acupunture in January but we are looking at surgeons as I think we will need to do the unilateral tie-back by next summer.
Thank goodness...no one told Marcus he is sick and he is the silliest, sweetest boy in the world and we cherish each day he is with us.
