Sedalia, Missouri...

Thank you baileydog. It would be nice if the moderator changed the thread to prevention instead of beating me and my handler up for this incident. Every negative comment breaks my heart. I loved my Cody, but understand the "**it happens" on occasion. Not one of the people dissing me and my handler weren't there. I WAS.
I arrived the day after the event. All the owners who lost their dogs (3 owners of 5 dogs) have rallied in support of him.
If you weren't there, then keep your fingers silent IMHO, JFWIW
Nope...all the owners aren't supporting him. One isn't at all. And is making it known. Julie is right about that.

Nikki, I don't know you or Cody...but my heart goes out to you. I'm so sorry for your loss...and the losses of the others.

As for a possible prevention option.... our vehicle has an automatic start on it that runs the car with A/C or heat. It has a two way remote so that we can see if the car is still on, PLUS it has a thermometer reading on the remote so that we can see how hot/cold it is in the car. The two way remote works up to 2 miles away. Obviously, things can still go wrong....but it's a "better" way of monitoring our vehicles.

Did you add this after market? I have a remote start on my van but it's not two way or have a thermometer - I'd like to have that!

Is that aftermarket or was it factory installed? I'd really like to get one of those. I don't leave the dogs in the car when it's over about 55 anyway, but it would be a nice thing to have at a show at times. It can get very warm, even in the Spring and Fall, so turning on the AC would be nice while I sat outside the vehicle and chatted with his handler or whomever, and the dogs could stay in the AC.

OOps...just saw your post above mine. Thanks!

I think there's a newer one aftermarket DroneMobile that works with smartphones and the gps so you can monitor from smartphone.

only 1 newf died (mine) Odie was absent because he bruised his leg and limped for a day, so we gave him time off to rest and recuperate. Just because a dog is absent doesn't mean it died. Otherwise there would be a lot of dead newf at every show.

That is good news... I understood there were two newfs, two Saints and one Border Collie to make up the five deceased.....So who were the five?

Dear Niki,
I'm so sorry to hear this! I just heard about the incident yesterday and I was telling Steve that I had hoped it wasn't your Newf, not that I would want anyone's beloved dog to die in such a horrible way.

You should know however, that this is not the first time this handler has lost dogs to overheating.

This handler lost 10 dogs in a similar incident 5 years ago, and now this? Utterly ridiculous. This man should never have the opportunity to enter an AKC ring again. Ever. His skill or success be damned, this ought never have happened. If Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results, that's what his appalling and reckless negligence is. Insanity. Signing now.
