OK..here is what I have been told by several who know.. A handler on his way to the Sedalia show left dogs unattended in his truck....air went off...all dogs died (6 or 7 ? ).....2 were newfs.....worse yet..this individual continued to the show...to handle ringside entrants, and did not even tell all the customers that their dogs had died.. I don't remember all the dogs, but 2 were saints, and at least one border collie. This is a handler I have used more than I care to think about....I don't think I will ever let a handler take any dog of mine again..My understanding is that the AKC rep asked him to leave....this of course is ongoing.

Oh no. I haven't heard anything about it here. Were the dogs local?

That's so tragic and avoidable. Makes me glad I handled Piper myself.

I'm surprised you posted that Julie after what happened a few years ago with Jamie Orr and her losing all of those dogs due to heat stroke . I seem to remember you reprehending some of the posts about that particular incident.

This isn't about 'me' Louanne....It is about some beautiful innocent dogs that died a horrible death. Shut up in a truck with no air. "Heat stroke" sounds like to tame a term for both instances.. re read the old thread..your re-visualization is wrong

Julie, the generator quit so the A/C quit. I lost my Cody in that, but it wasn't his fault. Long story short myself, my breeders, and the Border Collie owner, and the Saint owner don't blame it. It was a freak accident. He was parked at his mother's home so they could see his dad before surgery. Those of us effected by this have banded together to help him get over this. I

I need to confirm and get more information before I open a can of worms...trying now
Can of worms seems to have already been opened. I am a first hand ...
Also only 5 of 32 dogs died. Our 2 GCH's are fine as are the rottie, weimerranner, and 23 CHineese Cresteds This was not a "whole truckload"

Niki...I know this is a terrible thing for anyone to go thru..you expecially.....but when a vehicle is left with dogs in it...SOMEONE should stay behind to watch over things...This is a tragedy...I realize some dogs were in the house...But no one should trust that a generator will not quit. I know (____) van and there is no way it would EVER hold 32..I am sorry for all concerned...

Nikki I am so sorry for your loss of Cody. It was a tragic accident. Glad to see you are so understanding during these difficult times. It is truly a strong person who can see past the pain and think reasonably. Godspeed to your Cody.

So sorry for the loss of these dogs.
How long was the handler visiting his family. I don't think I would be taking it easy if my baby was left in a unattended vehicle. He must feel terrible but think he should have checked on them once a hour or sooner if the van was parked in the sun. What if the generator was working and the air stopped. Just saying anything that could happen usually does if left unattended.
Poor babies!!

Niki, prayers to you about this. Abundant ice, cool running water and fragrant cool breezes to Cody in heaven.

If I ever show it will be me, only me, with my dog/s. Can barely stand leaving Orka 1/x month with his groomer. Super careful with the heat issue. Always have fresh water and a bowl, always make sure he can play in a river / lake / lagoon etc. Don't take him out in the car on a hot sunny day. Even though we have good air conditioning, just don't do it. Have over 300 trees, spend a lot of time watering to keep coolness and shade. Heat pump in house, never above 72, and he has his own Vornado fan.

And when Lynn retires we may move to upper Washington State to get more water, overcast, rain and cooler weather.

From what I've observed nobody loves my Newf like I do or observes him as closely every minute. Just how it is, so I take full responsibility.

I've watched really good handlers in the ring and admire them but would rather get that good myself than give my dog to anyone else.

Bottom line: nobody else cares as much as I do about my dog.
