Prayers for Pooka

It's great to see that your boy is feeling better! Good news indeed!

I do wonder.... if the ear canal instant readers would work for a puppers? ....
I don't know if it's the same for dogs as it is infants, but Rowan's Pediatrician tells me that there is nothing more accurate than taking a temperature throught the, uh, exit :p At home anyways.

Temp at 102.2 this morning, and we had two awesome signs that he's feeling more himself - 1. he lifted his leg to pee, and 2. he chased the Handsome Cat, woofing mightily, when the Handsome Cat menaced the Maya Cat. Pooka the Police Dog is back on duty.
Cat policing is important work! Obie's a cadet as well. Good sign that the Pooka man is on the mend!

Since Thunder will NOT let anyone take his temp at the "exit" I asked about ear. They claimed it is not accurate but I'm inclined to get one anyway, it's bound to be better than nothing.

Well, I don't know what I have been doing this week to have missed all of this. I have been on pins and needles and so worried about Pooka until finally getting here to the 101 reading. I hope Pooka continues to improve.

Temp of 101.3 this morning, (lowest temp reading yet), and he woke Sandy up at 4 a.m. woo-woo-wooing at a strange cat outside the kitchen doors.

I don't think Sandy has ever been so glad to be woken out of a dead sleep by Pooka being an over-reactive spaz.

He still gets tired easily and is sleeping more than usual, and his bursts of energy are short-lived, but there are a few toys scattered on the kitchen floor again, from his greeting ritual, his respiration sounds a lot more normal, and in general he's a billion times improved from Wednesday. Thank you guys so much for all of your good thoughts.

If I could ask for one more burst of prayers, he is getting his blood drawn today for a recheck of his white blood cell count, (was 20,000 on Tuesday) - please keep your fingers crossed that that count has started to come down...

Anything remotely resembling a paw, claw or finger is crossed for dear Pooka! The news continues to sound good!

Pooka's white blood cell count just came in. It's down from 20,000 to 11,000. Normal is between 7,000 and 16,000. Aaaaaand I'm sobbing. But they are happy tears.

Thanks guys, for everything.

ETA: How on earth can you leave an open bag of food out like that!? Darwin tries to gnaw through the plastic thing that we use to hold his food. A bag in the back of the car was shredded to bits in the 7 minutes it took me to get gas once!
Very, VERY thorough training when they were puppies. That's where their bag of dog food lives, all the time. There are cans of wet food down there too, and things of treats. They don't steal. (Generally speaking. Nanook stole a chicken drumstick once as a puppy, and Pooka stole a sandwich off the table last month in a fit of testosterone-fueled madness - but for the MOST part, they know STEALING IS WRONG.) In point of fact, Pooka will get REALLY upset, and bark and bark and bark, if one of the cats tries to mess with the bags of dried chicken treats they all love. He tattle-tales. On the cat.

Yay!! So glad he is doing better!! ::woo woos and happy dance!::

Nessa, who was it that dumped the treats on the floor and then tried to blame the cat? I remember that; thought it was very funny.
