Prayers and advice needed

Hi all,
Friday my wife and I picked up our 8 week old newf Luca (I know he's young, but i'm in the Army and could only get him then and didn't want to ship). He was fine and was a total goof-ball on Friday and early Saturday. Late Saturday he started to vomit clear fluids (looked like drool) then started to have diarrhea. After much contact with the breeder, we decided to go ahead and bring him home with us on Sunday. He wouldn't eat and continued to have diarrhea (but no blood in stool). Last night, he ate about a cup of food, and then threw it up two hours later...and all day today. We took him to the Vet around 11 this morning and they tested for parasites and worms...he had one coccidia and many protozoa. They gave him a shot for the diarrhea and then a bunch of different pills for the other stuff. We waited all afternoon for Luca to show some kind of improvement but he wouldn't event drink water and was very, very lethargic. We took him to another vet this evening (for a second opinion) and they gave him a parvo test. It came back within a minute as a "strong positive". He just had his parvo shot last week...could this cause the positive? Needless to say, we left him to get the parvo treatment and blood work done. We are so worried. The vet will give us the blood work results in the morning and we should have a better idea of how bad it is. He said that there is about an 80% survival rate with the treatment. Should we expect the worst? None of Luca's litter mates are sick and he doesn't have a fever. Our breeder hasn't had an episode of parvo in over 7 years, but she knows its a very serious issue and is supporting us as if Luca was still hers. He just won't eat or drink and has been upset for almost two days now. He lost almost two pounds since the night we picked him up. Please keep Luca in your prayers and we could use any advice you guys have. I'll post some pictures of him in the newfie photos tab. Thanks everyone.

OH I'm so sorry to hear your dealing with Parvo in such a young baby. Be sure and ask the Vet if he started him on 'Tamiflu' to help keep the symptoms from getting worse. I know a few people swear by it to help keep them comfortable. It does not cure it.

It sounds like this Vet has good experience with dealing with Parvo, I'm sending good thoughts a prayers for your baby boy! Your breeder needs to test the entire litter, as they had to of been exposed to it before you picked him up, to be showing signs this quick.

Please keep us posted on how he's doing, and again, I'm sorry your dealing with this.

Sorry to hear about Luca. You answered my questions that I asked in your picture post. It sounds like he was not well when he was at the breeder. It would be unlikely that he is the only one in the litter with parvo as it will spread to them all. Getting the shot will not cause them to get the disease. It is a good thing the new vet tested him for parvo since time is crucial in treating this. Unless the pups were taken to a public place, which seems unlikely, then it had to brought into the kennel by someone. Sending good thoughts for his fast recovery! Please keep us posted.

I'm praying for you and Luca. We have a puppy too - Tiika is 4 months and 1 week now. We know how precious puppies are and how much you worry about them. Keep him close!

Wow that is scarey for you guys, i would hope the other pups dont get it to, hopefully he flies thru this! maybe they can test him again in a week or so just to be sure it was not shot induced, but, it sounds like stress from going to a new home etc... may have kicked off something, or, maybe the shot brought the symptoms on.
how is he doing now?

Thanks everyone for your support. We just got back from the Vet and we got somewhat good news. He sat up for the Vet this morning and started to wag his tail (whereas last night he didn't even cringe when they put the IV in). His white blood cell count was 900 as of last night and they will test again tomorrow. He will probably have to spend three or four days at the Vet in isolation. It's so hard knowing that he's just in the other room and not being able to go love on him and tell him he's going to be ok.
I will keep everyone updated and thank you again for all the support and prayers.
