Hi, this is Tug.
My brother, Alabaster the big white dookey head cat, is at the Vet's for a couple days.
Mommy watched him try and use the litter box last night, and he sat and sat and sat and sat and... hardly nothin'.
Then Mom went to go to bed and found 2 spots where there was much more than 'nothin'!
Mommy is so worried, she took Ala (Little Bast... on his bad days) to the Vet first thing in the mornin'! Almost forgot to feed me! Harummph! :cussing2:
The Vet Dr. guy said he has 'crystals' in his pee and gave him lots and lots of medicine, and a bone picture... Mommy nearly cried when he said he couldn't see a 'blockage'. But cuz the Dr. Vet guy said he had to be watched, Mommy had to leave him there; nobody to watch the poor guy when Mom's at work for 13 hours!
And I'll be with Mom, so I can't watch him!
We had some really hot, hot days and Mom thinks he wasnt drinkin' enough, cuz we also didn't have water! Lots of water in our bowls (bottled) but none in the bathroom sink where Ala insists on drinkin'!
Like I said; he's a dookey head!
So, please, keep Ala the big white dookey head cat in your thoughts; he's a cat, I know... :whistling: But Mom's kind of attached... :icon_stupid:

We're all gonna say some prayers for your little brother and for you, too. Because big brothers get sort of lonely and worried for their family.

Yeah, I'll have to change ALL their diet (4 cats) because they don't like separating.
And they're on ORIJEN for cats!
If I'd known we were going to be without water THAT long, not just part of a day, I'd have bought enough water for his %$^# sink! After it's all said and done, we get a note from the super, telling us that we might not have water and to be prepared...

:cussing2::grrr::cussing2::grrr::cussing2:

Oh, I could just BURST!

Prayers and positive thoughts for Ala from Australia.......I suppose that means a change of food to the expensive stuff to reduce the formation of those nasty crystals/calculi ?

I could be wrong, but back when I had cats suffer from this I thought my vet said it was because of high magnesium levels in some cat foods. Since then I buy cat food from our local super market made for urinary health, all the major brands have something for it( I think).

Good luck with everything, and we'll be praying for you!

Talk to your vet about giving him vit. C which increases the acid in the urine making it more difficult for crystals to form. Also check the % of ash in the canned cat food, you want low ash. I had a male who had this problem, and we had it under control with just the vit. C (twice/day) and low ash food.

We just went through this, TWICE, with O'Malley. Crystals in the urine, then two blockages, with trips to the ER vets.

He's on Royal Canin canned urinary prescription diet. The other cats eat out on the back porch when I feed 'Malley, to keep them out of his dish.

Hope Alabaster will be OK!

Ala is better; he peed a flood after a little 'squeeze' from the Vet, so it's not blocked!
He'll be home Sunday, but he's still not in the clear till 7 days have passed without a relapse.

All the cats have been on a mix of Orijen Cat & Orijen 6 Fish for cats. It doesn't state any ash in the ingredients lists (which I believe they have to declare), and claims the ph and lower 'meal' makes it low magnesium. These are the reasons I fed it. I think it's the lack of water (finicky little s*&t) that caused the problem.

Now we'll research a good one for Urinary health and they'll ALL be on it; 'preventative'....

The little (17.6lb) bugger appreciates all your well wishes.

Now... I gotta find a sugar daddy to pay the vet bills ;)
