Mudji limping

About two weeks ago, I noticed that mudji was limping and not putting pressure on his foot. I nosed around, poked and prodded, to no reaction. Now, after my 10 day trip to London, mudji is still limping only worse. I am hoping he's not blown his knee out. He's managing, but I don't know how. Vet appointment with the orthopedist is scheduled for Wednesday morning, with probably x-rays scheduled. At 9+, I am hoping that there is not a TPLO in his future. But, with that said, before this, you'd never known mudji was that old by his actions. This vet is the one who did Weezie's 2 TPLO's so I know he'll do a good job. It's just hard to see such a happy boy limping around. But that also did not stop him from snuggle time on the couch yesterday when I was home from the bakery early due to the massive snow storm. I hope that made him feel better.

If anyone has any extra good thoughts, I think mudji could just them, and I hope you'll share.

Oh no! I hope the vet has some good news. Maybe a less invasive procedure for a 9 year old???

I hope you receive good news from your vet. My 3 older Newfs, Gulliver, Luna, and Heidi have all had bilateral TPLOs - but they were much younger. If a torn cruciate - maybe a more traditional repair to save him the long rehab.

Many good thoughts coming for you and Mudji! Fingers crossed that it is a non-surgical fix. :hugs:

Thinking good thoughts! Boj has been limping for a few weeks now due to a sore on his pad from the snow getting stuck to it, and ripping off the snow balls with his teeth. It was his front leg, he went on an anti inflammatory, was fine and then it happened to his back leg. It went away but he started licking and the sore came back as which brought the limp back. I really had to search for those sores and the vet did so much manipulation with him to make sure it wasn't bone or muscle it made me ache! Hoping it's nothing serious for you guys! Thinking good thoughts!

I'm sorry Mudji is still limping!

I Just want to add that IF its a cruciate, you should seriously check into the 'tightrope' repair. We had one of our boys in rescue who needed a crutiate repair and we opted for the tightrope procedure. Its definitely the way to go if you can find a surgeon who has experience with it. Our guy went through surgery on Jan 4th and he was toe touching in three days post op. Our largest challenge now is keeping him from over doing it, but the stability in that knee is just amazing and he knows it. I have spoken with my Vet and his Orthopedic Surgeon extensively about this. The results they are seeing are very positive. So much so, that dogs who had other repair techniques on the other knee previously are bearing more weight on the newly repaired tightrope knee than the one that was done months previous. Its just amazing to watch these guys do so well with this repair. They believe this feels more stable to the dogs, than any other repairs, so they highly recomend it for the giant breeds. It doesn't hurt that its half the cost of a TPLO from everything I've checked into.

Fingers crossed that Mudji doesn't need anything more than time and rest!

Aw Hannah. Ditto Nessa. Hopefully a soft tissue bruise or something that will resolve itself. We'll be hoping for the best.

I was hoping it was something soft tissue related, but not so sure at this point. I've been home from England since Wednesday night and if anything, he's gotten worse. He's happy in the couch, so up he goes when he feels like it. The sling is out to assist when he's coming up the stairs outside. I am afraid he's blown his knee, but nothing will be known for a couple of days.

Till then, I plan to keep him as quiet as possible. Storm is coming tomorrow with possible snow, sleet, and possible rain so I think it's an inside day here. I also am giving him a tonic I take that helps me, so maybe it will help him.

Keep the good thoughts coming. He's not showing his discomfort, but as I told the vet's office, he's a newf!

thanks from here,
hannah
