Looking for a home for a <12 yo girl

We will be getting a girl in real soon who is almost 12. She seems to get around okay, just slowing down. Gets along well with other dogs and cats. We have a lot of grooming ahead of us, but we have high hopes for this lady.

If anyone is interested in giving an older girl a nice home, please let me know.

Thanks!

Thank you for doing this. Reading these threads has convinced me to foster/adopt older Newfs when I have fewer animals! I hope she finds a loving home.

Susan, can she do stairs? We live in a Raised Ranch, just some preliminary questions, I don't know whether we could yet.

Hi Ted - She does stairs occasionally now, but not well, and probably could not do them regularly. Given her age, we don't know how long she could continue to do stairs as thats asking a lot of an old girl. My Lu is 13 and its been an increasing concern for the last year or so.

Thanks.

I just want to put a plug in for adopting seniors. We fostered and eventually adopted Winston. They were guessing his age at the time of our adoption to be 8 1/2 or 9 1/2 years old. We've had him for 1 1/2 years and he has been such a blessing.

He definately won't win any beauty contests at 10 or 11 but if there was a contest for charactor, he'd win it hands down. He hates water and hates winter but loves to snuggle up to a warm human every chance he can get. At 10 or 11, he has nothing to prove to other dogs and gets along with everyone he mets.

These seniors don't ask for much, a warm place to call home, regular meals and some love and stability. There's no guarantees on how long you will have them but the time with them is very, very special. Our lives has been made so much richer having known such a gentle soul like Winston.

I hope someone has a place for this senior girl. They truly don't deserve to be without a home at this point in their lives.

I agree with every word here. What tears me up, though, are these statements you made:

These seniors don't ask for much, a warm place to call home, regular meals and some love and stability.... They truly don't deserve to be without a home at this point in their lives.

I look at my three and imagine how they would feel if they found themselves without us.

Thanks everybody, we have a temp foster home ready for her, we're just looking to try and make as few moves as possible for her. She has been in this same home since she was a puppy. Her dad has lost his job, there are three kids, and now they are losing their home. So this is a very emotional decision/situation.

Even though it would be a strain, I would be interested in taking her, but everyone lives on the upper floor of the raised ranch. If she has stairs issues, it would not be fair of me to take her, and then she has issues. Well I tried. Thanks Susan, if you need any help from up this way let me know.

If I lived in your city I would give this girl a home to spend the end of her life in. There is no shortage of love and a human body for her to curl up in and I would stay on my main floor for her if stairs are a problem. Poor baby this breaks my heart.

The same thing happened to the family I got Gracie from. My rescue chair asked me if I could take her. She was turning 10 yo when I got her and had her for almost 4 years. She passed away at almost 14 yo. I love the seniors, they are just so special and should have a loving home to live out the rest of there lives. If I was closer I would take her in a minute.
