I have to say that Lu is doing wonderful on the Duralactin. She came to the National with us and walked from the back of the handler parking into the grooming building with no problem. A little slow, but she just kept on truckin all week long. She now climbs up on the couch again, as she had stopped doing that. I do think its helped quite a bit. She's more active in the house, walking around checking things out that she had lost interest in. I'll be keeping her on it! :)

(A little long because I want the new folks to know about this girl just like most of you do)
I really ought to stay away from Senior Talk; some of this strikes such an emotional nerve...

4ondafloor: What an amazing, beautiful and touching story. And to everyone that assisted in getting MissM to 4ondafloor :hugs: and then :hugs: again. Seriously. I'm a total mess now!

Oh Kristen, don't cry! She's doing so well and she's such a joy.
We love her to bits.
She was a happy girl when Megan and Rob took her to the airport in Denver and she was smiling when we picked her up. You should have seen her furry little feet scurry to the nearest patch of grass to pee.
I know she's happy and I know she's thankful. Every night she goes over to the DH and swats his leg with her paw for a chin skritch and she's happy.
It's all good!!

We love all of our Newfs but I think that the first dog is special. It is the dog that you make all your mistakes with and who teaches you the most.[/QUOTE]

Truer words were never spoken. Beautifully phrased too. Thank you!!!! I have to go home now and kiss my boy!!

yeah, well, I'm crying now too! AND I knew she was happy when we left her:cry: She literally bounded into my Tahoe when we picked her up to go the the airport, better than Bojie ever did/does. Rob immediately had a connection with her and had a very difficult time putting her on the plane(I had met her before- and gave her lots of lovings). We stayed until the very last possible minute so that she wasn't crated for longer than she needed to be. She is a sweet, sweet girl, and I can't think of a better home for her. I just wish we could see her more often. I love this story.

Today I realised just how lucky I am.

Bath day for Gracie (11yr and 7 mth). She hops into and out of the bath tub (people tub!!) with no difficulty, does lots of shaking whilst standing in the tub:crazy::crazy: I get a bit wet but that's a small price to pay really.

Lies down in the garage whilst she gets blown dry, rolls over for the other side to be dried.

Gets all trimmed up, I don't make her stand for the feet trim, so they are not perfect and she wouldn't have been BOS at the National lol but she looks great and was so obliging.

If I get ambitious I will take a pic of her tomorrow.

Males over 10 yr

Hmm, wish GAD would give us a forum for the seniors but he is busy and hopefully will soon.

Anyway.......today I'm hoping that we can find out how many of you have males over 10 yr, seems to me that the ladies outnumber the males in this age group, am I right?

Out of 3 previous males only Dudley lived to be 11 1/2 yr. The other 2 lived only 7 1/2yr and 8 1/2 yr.

Me too Angela!
MissM can't get in the bathtub I'm afraid. She's got such bad hips. She does love a good bathing though and she shakes herself pretty darn good.
I don't make her stand either. She gets dried on one side and rolls to the other.
If you want to see her low-rider self get going with a full head of steam, all you have to do is yell "MaB, coooookie!" and boy can she ever scurry to the kitchen.;)

Chance lived to be 12 years 3 months old. Never long enough.

Angela...we have Chance who's going to be 13 in August. He's a male.

We got him, and his sidekick Lucy the Toller, when he was 8.5 yrs old from Adopt A Golden Atlanta. There was a post on Newf L about the pair, we submitted an application and Jacques was on his way to get them (in Atlanta) within 48 hrs of our seeing that post.

He's doing GREAT. A little achy getting up and down, but he's still extremely mobile and trots around the "farm" as well as he did when he got here. He's a chow hound, and even tho he's a little creaky getting up, if he knows I have food, he'll stroll on over to the table to beg, every single time. haha

I'm going to try the Duralactin on him, along with his regular joint supplements (Gycoflex III) which have worked pretty well.

His girlfriend Lucy is 10 1/2 now, and she acts like she's three. I've never seen such an agile active, senior.

Those two aren't as bonded as when they came...and have fit right into our pack for the past 4.5 yrs. He's quite a wonderful "old guy".

Haahaa, what even the oldies will do for food, eh?!
You bet! Mark sometimes says " I'll just take it to her" and I tell him absolutely not! She NEEDS to get her sassy self up and come into the kitchen. She needs the excercise. ;)
I just love the older ones.:new_smilie_colors1:

I'm currently trying to figure out how to bathe Echo. She can't stand long and I can't get her across the floor (too slick) at the dog wash. Guess we'll go out in the back yard and just do the best we can. She enjoys her baths, but it's almost impossible to get her dry at home. She's afraid of noisy dryers but loves the ones at the dog wash.

Nina, just saw this.
Do you have any rubber backed mats at home that you could take to put down on the floor at the dog wash to help Echo walk there?

This is what we eventually had to do when we took Dudley to the vet, goodness knows why vets office floors are soooo shiney but we just took a bunch of mats with us and put them down on their floor, lol. It worked, they thought we were nuts, but who cares.

I did something similar except it was a hall runner rug rolled up. I walked in the front door to the vet, threw out my rug and in waltzed MissM. People thought I was bonkers.
Bath time here is outside because MissM can't get in the bathtub. She lays and rolls to get dried. She loves the dryer but can't stand longer than it takes me to wash her so she just plops and gets blow dried ( I love her! )

Don't know if I could get DH or the people at the store to go along with mats for approx 30 yards from the front door to the dog wash area, and it's right through the middle of the store, and if they move at all she freezes and drops. In the last few days I'm afraid she has gone downhill quite a bit. Stops every 5 feet and sits for a rest. Takes two of us to talk her out and in. Think Echo's time is near.

Awwwww daggone it..
I am so so sorry. It's such a hard thing to watch. I know I dread seeing MissM struggle at times.
