Ears, who trims, and who doesn't?

Just wondering.
I trim my dogs ears but then I see a Newfie that is un-trimmed, and sometimes I like that look. Yogi's breeder thinks I make him look like a dork because I trim his ears, I keep all three of mine trimmed (I do my own grooming, and I am not good at ears). I was wondering how many of you don't trim?
Is it a must for show dogs have to have trimmed ears?
When I think I will let them grow out, they start to look like they are neglected, so I bring out the scissors.

Zeke's breeder says the same thing when I trim all of ours. I personally think they look better when I trim them. Not so long in the face, like with Theona. Look at the difference with the before and after...................

The one time I trimmed Snuffles ears, it was BAD!! But then I do not have the type sissors I need. I have 2 friends with newfs, that do their own grooming too, so they occasionally do it for me. The only thing I trim are Snuffles' pads.

I also trim ears regularly. I can't stand the cocker look :)
I use both scissors and an electric clipper with a comb on the blade.

I trim all Newf, Golden and Toller ears! LOL

To me they look so much younger, livelier and it brings out their expressions!

Wow Teri, Theona does look a whole lot better with them trimmed. I guess I will keep on trimming.

I just had my girl's ears trimmed for the first time 2 weeks ago and I LOVELOVE LOVE the way she looks all cleaned up.

I do have a question for those who trim their Newf's ears...what shears would you recommend using? I have a wonderful groomer that is very experienced with Newfs, but in 2 weeks, Mila's ears are already getting long again. I would rather try my hand at it then continuously bring her in to the groomers for it.

This thinner is one I have had for several years and have been very happy with...

It may seem a bit pricey, but is worth the investment if you think you will use it often for many years. It really does not pay to buy a cheap shear, as it does not cut well and some cannot even be sharpened.

I'm still learning but I trim Morgans ears and pads. Sometimes I do good and other times I tell myself it will grow back and I'll have a new canvas in a few months. She is my first so I figure I should get it in a few months. The website was a plus in my book too. Thanks for it.

I've never let the groomer trim Chloe's ears as I think she looks feminine.Nessa offered to do them at Newfest, sometimes I think I should have let her so I'd see how they looked on her.Kandy's hair isn't that long, not yet anyway.LOL

I trim! I use straight shears and thinning shears to hide any rough edges. I trim them often and even just started on Riggs ears. You can play around with how short you cut if you prefer longer hair on the ears you can still trim but not as tight.

I trimmed too... ONCE and then my Pae got called a "fat lab" last year (she was a little over a year old) That was the only time I ever did it. I kept getting it shorter and shorter....
Nessa told me about a method of "rolling" the ear to trim the hair. I'm going to invest in a good quality scissor and try it.
