Ears, who trims, and who doesn't?

I just did it tonight, but with the wrong kind of scissors. I kept thinking about the idea of "Bozo ears" and Poppy's have a bit a red cast to them, and tonight I couldn't stand it anymore and just trimmed them up. Now I have to neaten them up, as well. Visible lines. But they still look better than they did, I think. And her hair...remember Pigpen, from Peanuts, how he just walked down the street and would get dirty? That's Poppy's ears. I will comb them out and I swear, by morning she had a mat! So, it was time to trim them. Now I have to get some good shears.

I trim ears regularly. Both Newf and Berner. Love how they look after a trim. I'm definitely not a perfectionist when it comes to ears. They grow so fast that it just isn't an issue. I just hack away. :)

I've never let the groomer trim Chloe's ears as I think she looks feminine.Nessa offered to do them at Newfest, sometimes I think I should have let her so I'd see how they looked on her.Kandy's hair isn't that long, not yet anyway.LOL
I can do it for you sometime Wayne. :)

I trim. Be careful, once you start, it's addictive! I am always fussing over someone's ears. I call it practice! I finally bought good thinning shears and scissors and oh what a difference! I also use clippers from time to time as well. It helps I think to keep down the mats!

All mine are different. Hannah looks adorable with a short, clean triangular ear. Gabriel looks like a doofus trimmed that way so I leave his longer, but tidy. I keep Sophie's trimmed somewhere in the middle. I DO keep the underside of hers trimmed really short and pluck any hair in the ear canal as it seems to help keep her ear infections down.

I trim ears and feet very frequently and dremel nails once a week. I don't like messy ears or feet. I think a well trimmed newfs is really a beautiful sight. When we got Murph I just thought his ear fuzzies would fall out with time. His breeder kindly told me that they needed to be trimmed. Ever since then I've been kind of crazy about keeping them trimmed. Here's Murph and me while I'm still in the "Thinking the ear fuzzies will just fall off phase". And then there is a trimmed ear photo. He looks soooo much nicer trimmed.

Honestly Donna I thought that was puppy fur and that it would just come out eventually. We'd been to shows but it never occurred to me that they had trimmed their dogs ears hahaha. He's about 11 months old in the photo so I figured it was puppy fur. Thankfully I was told they should be trimmed and now when I look back at the photos it makes me laugh that I honestly thought it would just fall out and trimming was not needed :)

I thought the same thing about Mila's ears, so don't be too embarassed :p

BTW, Murphy is gorgeous with a side of wowza!

Murphy is one handsome dude. And Katie-you are really very pretty yourself! That's a great shot of the two of you.

I asked my hair stylist tonight for tips on trimming my dogs ears. She already thinks I'm the crazy dog lady (she's never had a pet in her whole life!!), so she really thought I was wacky-but she gave me some general haircutting tips.

I like the look of the trimmed ear, but for some reason my groomer used to trim Max's but not Morgan's. I never asked why or figured out why. Morgan was an Irish spotted, on the smaller side for a male (120 lbs), and the long ears made him look like a big spaniel sometimes. I used to run his ears through my hands all the time; they were so soft and silky. I miss doing that. :(
