Close Call, Not Even Safe in Your Own Yard

Friday night, at about 2am, I let Miley out to go to the bathroom in the dog run. I went inside and sat down to continue watching tv.

Then, all of a sudden about 20 minutes later, we heard a loud crash.

We ran outside. My boyfriend was the first person outside. I heard him screaming "stop stop stop". He was around the other side of the house.

I ran out after him and all of a sudden I see him chasing a car in the street and I saw the dog run destroyed.

I screamed for Miley over and over again. She wasn't coming.

Then all of a sudden, out of the darkness in the back of the run, Miley comes running to me.

I was almost in tears. I thought the worst and was at my knees hugging my girl.

Apparently the drunk driver plowed up on my lawn. About 40 ft?, smashed the first part of the dog run pulling the watering valve out of the wall and smashing the fence into my house.

Then proceeded to continue another 30-40 feet and smash into the other end of the dog run before backing up and reversing through the entire run again and trying to get away.

My boyfriend caught up to them and the cops were called. Lots of yelling and screaming and everyone came outside to make sure the dogs were inside and okay.

This goes to show you, no matter how far away from the street, no matter if your yard is fenced, your dogs can still be in danger.

Luckily everyone is Okay, with the exception of the dogs being restless not having an area to free roam/run/play.

First part of the fence that was hit. Chain link fence was dragged and slammed into the house, electric fence destroyed

The piece of the fence that was dragged and slammed into the side of the house.

The back portion of the dog run, second part they hit.

We were very lucky!

As far as I know, he did, we're waiting on a call from the company while getting some quotes to get a new fence. Cops said it'd be pretty cut and dry.

He was taken away in handcuffs while his girlfriend? who was half naked in the car, sat in the middle of the road drunk.

The car had to be towed it was in such bad shape, and we have pieces of it all over the property, including the VW thing that goes on the front, and some Hawaiian ornament. *shrug*

At least to caught the "perpetrator" and the police were able to arrest him. Glad everyone (people and Newfs) are OK. Make sure you show up at all the court dates to ensure this guy pays. Trust me, I know. The one court date you don't show he get it dismissed.

Holy Moses! I'm not sure I wouldn't have had a heart attack from the sheer terror and worry about my dog! So glad they caught him and equally glad no one was killed or injured.

I certainly hope this was a huge wake-up call for both the driver and his girlfriend. Makes you want to build a great big moat around your house!
