Clifford is blind (hopefully temporary)

Clifford is blind (Friday update)

Last night Clifford didn't seem to be seeing as well as normal, taking a little longer to find toys and treats. This morning, he couldn't see at all. Called the vet and went and got him examined. He could find nothing wrong with his eyes. He sent me to a specialist 45 minutes away in Toronto. They tried to take him in the back to do some tests. I insisted I stay with him since he couldn't see and goes to me for comfort. They went away and talked to someone and then it was fine. He examined him and the eyes looked fine with maybe a little swelling behind. He's doing a bunch of blood tests and wrote a prescription for prednisone and an antibiotic. He said we may see improvement in a few days. He thinks it is something attacking him immune system, maybe lyme disease, He has no other symptoms at all. He said it could get better and we may never know what caused it, or he may have to stay on meds for life, or if it doesn't get better he'll have to go to a neuroligist.
Clifford was such a very good dog, he was completely cooperative for all the poking, drawing blood, doing pressure tests on his eyes, etc. It doesn't seem to be bothering him much at all.
Then since we were coming home in 5pm Toronto stop and go traffic took almost 2 hours to get home.
Will keep you undated on any new developments good or bad.
UPDATE-
This morning Clifford is able to follow objects with his eyes. He still has trouble taking them so not all back. Good to see such a big improvement. I didn't know if he would get any of his sight back ever.
Thanks again everyone for your well wishes and advice.
Friday Update
Today Clifford's vision seems to be back to normal.:groovy::allg069: He is on antibiotics and anti-inflamatory meds for 2 more weeks so hopefully that will clear up anything so this never happens again.
Thanks again everybody for your concern.

Clifford has all of my prayers. I know that inflammation of the eye and blindness can be symptoms of Lyme disease. I hope they can find out what's going on with Clifford and fast!

Oh my! Sending prayers for Clifford.

I will say this though. If it ends up being a permanent condition (and I certainly hope not!), blind dogs do very well getting around. I have a friend who teamed up her completely blind dog with another for a draft competition and it was the most heartwarming performance I ever saw.

There are lots of good resources on the web if you need support.

Poor boy. But what a trooper he's been. Sending all of our good thoughts and also prayers for Clifford's full and speedy recovery.

Thanks everyone. I certainly hope he sees again. You are right blind dogs do very well. Even today you can't always tell he's not seeing where he is going and he can still find the foods and treats.
I'm much more worried that it is a symptom of something more serious, hope not.

Prayers coming for your boy that this is just temporary and nothing more serious. Big hugs for him!
