good luck to Alexander Rhyss,

dont worry Nessa my initials all together spell VECH, nice to have names associated with a car gives people a talking point when they work it out.

I love your name choice. As one with a last name beginning with "A" everyone in our family has a pronounceable monogram. Also, I will tell you that you shouldn't listen to anyone else in the family. It's between you and Sandy. And, 20 years from now you will wonder what all the fuss was about. And, if you decide to call him Alexander, call him Alexander - not Alex. He will go by it and insist on it. I have a son who has been Patrick - never ever Pat - his entire life. I also have a son whose name is Blaine - a beautiful name but frowned on in the 70's. He became Boomer at birth and still is, so my choice of names didn't matter at all. He and his wife, however, named their children without regard to the family opinion, and we have: Reagan (who I relate to President Reagan), Caroline (South Carolina), Balyor (university of course) and Hadley (Hadley Pottery - a famous company here in Louisville). With Baylor, we call her Baylor Grace or BG because it suits my southern sensibilities, and Hadley (who isn't born yet) we'll call Hadley Pottery. BTW you also are right to get a name and start using it. I do swear that every child has responded to her name at Birth. I really believe they know. Just have fun with the whole thing and don't worry about it. I can attest to that, because I got stuck with Nina because my parents couldn't make up their minds - it was a name in a Zane Grey novel my mother was reading in the hospital.

Am I good or what!?! I think I deserve a cookie or some such thing for guessing the sex and the name correctly (Well, I didn't guess Rhys for the middle name as I was rooting for Alexander Rowan as I am highly biased). Rhys is a lovely name and don't allow anyone in your family try to pervert it! It nearly created a fissure in my family when I had an absolute meltdown about some members of my family wanting to call Rowan RJ because they thought Rowan was a weird name. I said he is not going to be a NASCAR Driver and his name is not RJ and if they would like to continue being a part of his life, they would call NOT him that!

Congrats on the name choice, it's great!

Lovely name. From experience we know that trying to use you middle name as the one you prefer is fraught with problems. Most bureaucracies want to insist on First name, middle initial. Then once in a while one says - OK have it your way. Eventually you end up with a tangle and when you call and they need to dig out records you have to go through all variations to find however they happen to have it. Ron's full name is Willie Ronald Tucker. He hates Willie, (a problem your Alexander probably won't have) so he tries to be W. Ronald Tucker. That works great socially, a real problem with organizations (medical and governmental). They want him to be Willie R, except some who will let him be W. R. andonce in a while W. Ronald. In the end you find you never know quite who you are where.

Congratulations on the official naming of Bob. It's a wonderful name. We did the same thing with our son. He is Samuel after his dad. His middle name is different and his call name is Cole.

Makes paperwork without middle initials or birthdates fun. Prescription medication can be fun also, although the pharmacies would usually bill under his official name but put his call name on the bottle. :bear:

You, and Hsemko, each get a cookie.

She guessed his name at Royce! Which while not quite correct, was certainly close!

Speaking of call names and things like prescriptions. For years the pediatricians kept my son's records under "Boomer" and things like a prescription were not a problem. Now, he's officially Blaine, but almost no one calls him that, and if they do he knows its a stranger.

Love Bob's real name!!
Although...I have to say I have never seen the name Rhys before, so had to google the pronunciation. I hate pronouncing things wrong! Before google told me how to pronounce Rhys I was saying Ryes...like the bread. Not so cute. The right pronunciation is much better! :)

I love the name, Nessa, and admire your bravery in sharing your decision process with family and friends. We didn't tell our parents, shared our short list with my sisters only, and DD ended up nameless for 4 days after her birth! When I looked at her, she didn't "look" like any of the names on our list. Ah well...

Emmie, I'm married to a guy whose actual name is Alexander, and yet he goes by the name Sandy. I'm pretty sure any governmental confusion that erupts, we can handle.

I think the biggest problem that you are going to have will be pronunciation. I'm sure he is going to have to learn to answer to the wrong pronunciation the first time that his name is called in school, doctor, etc. Of course, all of these places will start out with him as Alexander. :uhoh2:

Ted, sometimes Sandy and I slip up and refer to him as Bob! Guess we should just be glad he's a he and not a she!
My SIL called my nephew "Butters" throughout her pregnancy (they didn't find out the sex) and she still lets it slip from time to time LOL!

I like the name. There is nothing wrong with being original. I think I wrote the book on that with my 17 year old. His name is Sabian Alexander Howard. I came up with it. Being a drummer, and rocking it out with a band back in the early days, my cymbal preference was Sabian. This manufacturer broke off from one of the brothers that manufactured Zildjian cymbals. Sabian, it self stands for the first letter in each of the children's names. My other choice would have been Wuhan but perhaps it's better I didn't. So, why did I choose Sabian? I figured since the purpose of a cymbal is to strike it this would appropriate in parenting somehow. Unfortunately, the laws changed and made it impossible to do just that. LOL His middle name was to add balance and strength from the names surrounding it. It didn't work.
