First, I have to tell you all how much I miss you! I took a new job that has me in front of the computer for the large part of the day and I just can't bring myself to get on it at night :( When things settle down, I can't wait to catch up on what's going on with everyone here...furred and furless....but I do feel compelled to share my news with you.

I took the boys to the vet today. They have both been on a diet. Seamus to lose weight and Bentley to gain. THEY DID IT :dance01::dance01::dance01:

Seamus lost 15 pounds and is down to a trim 125 pounds. I know it's not a lot, but he has had two knees replaced, bad elbows and hip dysplasia. That skinny boy can now trot and walks with NO limp and needs no Rimadyl. We are going to do our best to keep him at this weight.

When we got tall boy Bentley, he weighed 119 pounds. He sure was skinny. He is now.....drum roll please.....a solid 135 :kgo_027: I'm going to try to get some more on him as he's still thin and has no butt muscles to speak of.

It is such a relief to have them both at a healthy weight for each of them.

On the down side, but we can deal with it.... Bentley has cataracts in the back of both of eyes. They are in the very early stage of developing, so right now we are just to monitor them and have two month check ups and when they really start to impair his vision, we will discuss options with the opthamologist. Right now, his vision is only impaired in bright sunlight.

Skinny, healthy, super vision or not, we LOVE our Bennie Boy

Oh, the best news....Seamus, Bentley and I spent about 3/4 hour with the vet and our bill was only $28..... I couldn't even believe it! We are usually in the $200-$300 range when we go to the vet! Happy New Year to us!!

I hope the New Year is finding everyone healthy and happy and with lots of new Newf puppies.....just sayin.....

Outstanding! I can't imagine trying to get one slimmed down and one chunked up at the same time. It's alway good news to hear that all is status quo at the vets and walk out with a miminum of financial damage.

what did you use to get the weight down, we are still struggling with Beau's weight. Not sure what to try now as his blood and thyroid are all normal but he just doesn't loose it and I am knackered with all the extra walks at the moment. He has been cut down on his food and all treats are monitored. he isn't a veggie kind of newf either and grains are out

Thanks everyone! It is amazing how much better Seamus is doing orthopedically since he's lost the weight. He is his old bad self which I haven't seen for TWO years. He's chasing big fat Kitty, getting up easily, not limping at all and SO energetic that if he doesn't get his walkies, LOOK OUT! I have my mischevious teenager back.

Victoria, I had Seamus on Acana, but switched him to Timberwolf Bison or Elk. He could only eat a cup of the Acana without gaining and he was just always hungry. The Timberwolf is for weight management and he could eat about a cup and a half twice a day. I cut Waaayyyy back on the treats and gave him little ones compared to Bentley's big ones. Bentley gets 2 1/2 cups at a time. And Bentley LOVES ice cream, so Seamus gets a little when Bentley gets a goodly portion.

Someone has to be closeby during feeding because he eats as fast as be can and RUNS to Bentley's dish to eat his. And he can walk farther and romps with Bentley in the yard.

$28??? Unbelievable!! Congratulations on the weight loss - that is quite an accomplishment, probably harder on you than them.

I love Bentley and Seamus. I know how hard it is to cut back food, I'm in the process right now, as per the vet. I know he knew there was a cutback, because he's coming into the kitchen to "look around" alot more now. I feel so bad.
