What does your dog sleep on?

I know we have covered this topic before but with all of the new members that continue to crop up, I'm bringing it up again!

I am still on my ever continuing quest for the perfect bed. So far, I have figured out that Sunshine doesn't like solid square beds. The only one she seemed to like at all was the bed that Karen turned all of us onto on Ebay. I am thinking that an orthopedic bed with a back and side bolster might make her happy. Orvis sells one that I really like but the price is a bit steep.

I would love to hear what everyone is using these days. What their dogs needs are (orthopedic) and whether they prefer a nest bed or a square or one with bolsters. A picture would be awesome!

Hope I'm not asking too much!:)

My senior, Gracie, 11 yrs and 3 months will only sleep on the floor, I put down nice soft blankets for her. She immediately rearranges "her bed" and removes all blankets to sleep on the cool lino
So, sorry I'm no help there!!

Orka at 13 months is still sleeping on the cold hard ceramic tile kitchen floor in front of his own vornado fan.

He has a cedar bed from Costco but uses it as a prop for assuming the "I want lots of lovebugging" position. We're the ones who end up using the bed :)

Lately Orka has been strategically repositioning himself to be near any intersection by us to ensure more lovebugging. We have some plush long bathmats from Penny's that he likes a lot. At night he changes locations depending on where he thinks he'll get the most loving.

2 of mine love their cedar beds from costco. One loves the floor by the sliding glass door and one is still in the kennel. So not much help. Good luck

I have 2 beds from Costco too (one rectangular bed and one of the round ones) and Mila will only use on it on very rare occasions....maybe 10 times in the past 7 months. Other than that, it's all hardwood, all the time. It seems to be a pretty common issue; the desire to provide comfort and support for their orthopedic concerns but being thwarted by their constant desire to be cool. :ah:

I wish you luck in your bed quest SunnyD!

Come to think of it, I have an idea for you...

A couple of years ago I embarked on a very long and aggravating search for beds for my cats in an effort to convince them to carry out all of their grooming, sleeping and puking habits elsewhere. Knowing how finicky they can be, I purchased 2 beds at a time (one for each cat), gave them 2 weeks to try them out and returned them if they didn't work out (after applying a tape roller to them of course!). In the end they didn't like a single bed, but at least I didn't spend a small fortune on beds that would have just ended up in the garbage.

My Montauk sofa.(GRRR)
The ceramic kitchen floor, or the cheapo dog bed from XSCargo that I got for $15.
The $5 entry mat at the front door (also from XS Cargo)
Sometimes, though only very rarely, the cedar dog bed from Costco.

Mine like this orthopedic bed from Petsmart.
It's that, our bed or the hearth

Lola and Ty sharing the bed
Maggie had one of these-and LOVED it. I say "had" because one day she decided ( she was about 6 months old ) to pee on it.

She has a cedar bed from Costco now, but doesn't lay on it nearly as much as the old one. She's usually on the hearth.

Ludo will only sleep on the hardwood as well... He uses his dog bed to bounce off of when he plays, but that's about it...

Snuffles mostly sleeps on the floor. He has a dog bed we use in colder months, but never stays on it to long, and half of him seems to be on the carpet a lot of the times. He looks so uncomfortable. But it seems mostly he sleeps in the kitchen on the laminate moving the rugs aside that we put down for his traction.

Poppy sleeps on the hardwood, or on the area rug in the living room. She has a cedar bed from Costco, but mostly just wants to try to eat it or dig into it. She would love to sleep on the bed, but I am mean and won't let her. Here she is after she got caught while I was in the bathroom. Busted!

See Jack and Kelly's ortho bed from PetSmart above. We have one and Journey uses it occasionally. (Originally purchased for Crystal who loved it!) The Newfs mostly like their crates, doors always stay open and Zeus sleeps on the carpet. Sometimes I trip on dogs asleep in the kitchen, lately (winter?) they've opted for carpet.

Ditto Ted's post Tricia. I think a lot of it is temperature of the house. When it's warmer they go ceramic tile cool enough they go for our bed.LOL and everything else in between.Kandy seems to tolerate heat better then Chloe but Chloe has a much longer & heavier coat. Both have nice beds and they use them quite a bit but it's random unless you put them in down-stay on them which is handy.I was lucky & got two beds for $39 each (half price) just before X-mass they are Top Paw one under the orthopedic. We like them & so do the girls.LOL

We tried and tried to find a big comfy bed for Elvis. He had one from Walmart, 3 from Petco, and 2 from Orvis. We'd put it in his cage, and he would destroy it. The Orvis one was their "dog proof, indestructible" one that he ruined not once, but twice! The first time they send us a free replacement, and the second time they just gave me my money back.
We finally got smart and just got him a $5 twin blanket from Walmart to put in his crate and he LOVES it. I think he really just wanted the cool plastic to lie on, so with the blanket he can squish it out of the way if he doesn't want it. We usually find him laying down with it all bunched up under his head, almost like he's using it as a pillow.
