Well its been a year now since we got Thunder, and it seems like just yesterday. We rescued him from a women who was finding it hard to look after him. So when we heard about him we didn't think twice about going to Me. to get him(about a 6 hour drive from PEI).
When we first got him he was two and a half years old and a skinny 127 lbs. Here's a picture of him the day he came to our place.

Here's a picture of him today tipping the scales at 181lbs. I think he's filled out nicely in the chest and neck area. What do you think? I tried to get him to sit in the same spot so you could see the difference.

Sorry about the colour of the pictures I was trying to lighten things up a little. :shuffle:

Sheesh.. I would have driven there to get him, but then it probably would have been the same length journey! He is so cute.. And I too love his socks! They are so cute, and he is so handsome!

Thanks every one for the kind comments! Yeah it didn't happen over night but we think he looks a lot better. We knew that he had food allergies and other medical issues stemming from cheap dog food which the original owner was feeding him. He had welts or little dry flaky spots all over his body and had some hair loss on his belly and his coat wasn't very thick. So after a few months of feeding him lots of potatoes, chicken and Canadine(lamb and rice) along with a supplement of Omega-3 capsules for his coat he has bulked up and filled out nicely. His coat has filled in and is really thick now.(If only I could find a groomer to give him a decent Newf trim).
We never got him from the original owner but from the original breeders who are super people and took him back and we were just lucky to hear about him from a breeder in our area.
Since joining Newf.Net I'm amazed to find out how many of these beautiful animals are discarded in pounds and rescue shelters. On PEI their might be 50 Newfoundlands(if that many) in the whole province(pretty rare) and every one I have seen is cherished family member. When I was looking for a puppy I was in contact with a breeder in Quebec. Well I couldn't understand the reasons for all the questions about my house hold and where and how I was going to look after a Newf. I thought they were crazy with all the questions. But now in hindsight I see what they were up too. They were just making darn good and sure I was the right person for one of their pups and not just somebody get a Newf pup on a whim. Here on PEI we are a bit behind the times and when someone gets a dog lets say for a family pet they generally keep it. But I should also add it's getting worse around here too, the shelter seems always to have it fair share of animals that people throw away when they figure out the commitment they need to have to keep a pet happy and healthy.
Sorry about the rant.
Well all I can say is that we are very happy to have been blessed with Thunder in our home.
