I've read the Berner-L for the last decade and have subscribed to 2 Newf groups via Yahoo for the last 2.5 years I've had my BossMan, but I've never subscribed to a group like this web based one. So I'm stretching and learning.
Seems cool! Thankfully, someone on the Berner-L told me the reason I couldn't get this in "digest form" was b/c it wasn't tied to Yahoo Groups or anything like that.
So I'm meddling through, seeing how intuitive this can be.
I adore getting to know others who loves these wonderful dogs. We loved our first one for 10 years when we were first married 30 years ago. Ten years ago we brought a bernese mtn dog to our home, and he was unbelievable. But when he turned 7, we decided that we couldn't face a 'dog-less' home and returned to the steadfast Newf for comfort. BossMan easily slipped into the immense hole left by our incredible Berner when he died last Sept at age 9 of Malignant Histio (very, very common in that breed.) Decided we wanted to go back to the breed without as many health issues as Berners. Poor Boss was adrift when he lost his big brother, and with so many dogs showing up in shelters, we decided to bring him home a companion.
She's been quite the mess, but we've had this mutt here for almost 5 months and she is learning how to become a good companion. We're getting there, and I've got her in obedience classes now to hopefully make her good therapy dog.
BossMan was a dream through obedience, and is the best companion anyone would love. I've laughed at some of the obedience stories I've read on this list; big dogs make us Humble. And that is a good thing and well worth laughing about!
I hope to enjoy reading many threads in the coming years.
