I am an American Rinzai Zen Buddhist priest and I have been involved in prison ministry in some of the worst prisons in the US for the past 20 years. I have a brief BIO up here:

My organization, The Engaged Zen Foundation (EZF) is a small 501(c)(3) that operates on a very thin shoe-string budget, we are looking for a serviceable used vehicle to replace the car we received as a donation five years ago. Our present Mazda Protege has served us well. Unfortunately the rear wheel wells are completely rusted through, it needs a new exhaust system, a water pump and we have been told the car will not pass inspection next year. We have also been told that we need to replace all eight tires; snow, and regular. The costs involved in attempting to repair the damage is much greater than the value of the car, so it's time to put out an appeal. For more complete information about vehicle donation, see: IRS Publication 4303, A Donor’s Guide to Vehicle Donations at the IRS website.
If anyone has a decent, reliable used car they are thinking of trading in, please check with your accountant and see if it might be to your advantage to donate your old car to EZF for a tax write-off that may be greater than what you might get for a trade-in.
It’s OK if the vehicle has been “Newfed” --- if it hasn’t been, it will be!
Please excuse this intrusion, I am simply begging.... which is what Buddhist monks do! Let's face it, one does not make "the big bucks" teaching criminals meditation in prison.
I hope you will consider this proposal and perhaps be able to help us out.
With gratitude,
Rev. Kobutsu Malone
