I'm So. Stinkin. Proud. of my Princess!!! Last year I introdced her to truffles once but never did any training. Today I started training - showing truffles and giving treats. Transitioning to her finding the truffles was harder but I deliberately went close to someone else's bag of truffles and she alerted to them and got lots of treats. I asked her to find truffles and she put her nose to the ground as if she understood, but really she was just looking for a place to pee. I went to some new truffling ground and asked her to find truffles but she was content to watch me dig. As the rain increased I called it a day. On the way out she put her nose to the ground and got all wiggly at one spot and I dug and sure enough - trufffles! Princess got lots of attention, beef jerky and fresh turkey! What a good girl! What a clever girl! One day of instruction! I could not be any more proud of my Princess!

Yum! So jealous, I love truffles! What a great way for your dog to help you out and respond to her training so quickly. You could take her to the truffle festival in Eugene and show her off, they have events for you to go with your dog http://www.oregontrufflefestival.com/

I'm going Sunday, if I can get the day off work, to the $15 event. All the others range from $275 to over $1000, almost all are over $500. Definitely for a different class of people.
I'm making truffle butter and truffled eggs now. You just stick the truffles in a paper bag in a ziplock bag with unbroken eggs and sticks of wrapped butter. Last year I made them too strong.

BTW, if you join NATS they'll teach you to truffle hunt and you can teach your dog. We were north of Portland last Sat and the first Sat of Feb we'll be near Mulino, OR . Tue, Feb 9 their meeting will feature a truffle dog lecture (no dogs alowed but one of mine will probably be in the car)

Let me know if you'll be coming!

Bob, I am not at all surprised that your princess could find truffles. Try to get her to find a common old mitten or something and we'll hear a different story!!! :whistling: I live with one (princess, that is), I know!!!
