We're Todd and Heather. We live in south-central Indiana. I am a detective with the county sheriff's department and Heather works for a medical billing firm. In what little spare time I get I enjoy home projects, antique auctions and my Jimmy Buffet CDs. We have been married for sixteen years and have two daughters; Nicole 14 and Brittany 12. We live in a heavily wooded area far from the city. Our current menagerie includes our 13 month old Newf Zane, a black Lab
Cleo, a chocolate Lab Graber and our cat Fuzz.
I also keep reptiles as a hobby/breeding effort so you can add in around forty snakes and a few lizards. I have to admit that when Heather decided that we were getting a Newfie I wasn't sure about it. All I could think of was that is going to be one huge dog and I was convinced that he couldn't have more personality than my little schnauzer. OK so I was wrong. The more I'm around Zane the more I'm hooked. Even the drool doesn't bother me anymore. I've learned a lot about the breed and have tons more to learn.
I would eventually like to add another Newf and possibly do show work. I'm looking forward to meeting many of you in July at the get together.

Welcome new members! I will turn 50 next year, my that seems old! I have been married 14 years to a wonderful man but crazy man. He married me with 2 boys ages 11 and 13. Our boys are now 25 and 27. We also have a grandson who is almost 4 months old. Our favorite subject are our 4 legged black boys. Brady turned 2 last November and Tim will be 2 in August. These are our first newfs and they are the best. We want to get a third but don't want Tim to be the "middle" child. We all live together in NH, but I want to move to the woods of Maine with no neighbors! The family can come, including Mom who lives with us too just no neighbors for at least a mile.

Hi Everyone!
It has been wonderful to read through all the posts in this thread - it makes me feel like I know you. I have been lurking here since November, and just brought home my first newf pup last Wednesday May 19th and he is a little wonder!

Brady in NH, I actually do live in the woods of Maine,on the salt water with no neighbors, (at least for 10 months of the year). My dirt road is an abandoned rail bed, and if a sales person makes it down in here you know they are trying very, very hard.

I live here with my fur kids, newf, "Sir Hancock" who will be 11 weeks old on Wednesday, and two kitties, Meow Tzu and J. Bodhi Dharma "Bo" aka the "She Devil". Bo is having a hysterectomy tomorrow, and maybe she will out grow the She Devil nick name.

Have two grown Children, Kimberly (34) who has a daughter, Victoria(8 yrs old)and Jason(31), whose wife, Erika, just had Elliot Evans on May 15th. I am "in my mid 50's" So Two bouncing little baby boys came into my life in the same week.

For many years I taught nursing in a couple of different colleges and now do home health / and a little hospice nursing. I do what I do, so I can live where I live (priorities), and be outside in the great outdoors. My home health territory is Downeast from Ellsworth to Harrington Maine, and every day I see eagles, heron, wild turkeys and other native inhabitants. When the weather is cool, which is most of the time, Hancock will be riding in the car with me as I work. I hope someday for him to be certified as a pet therapy dog.

A Big Hello From Midlothian, Texas! Tim - 33& I (Danielle - 32) have been together for 7 years & happily married for the last 1.5. We currently have 3 babies with 1 on the way. All 3 were adopted. Asia (Siamese cat) is 10, Baby (Mix cat) is 6, & Maxy (Newf/Collie we think) is 4. The 4th member of our family is a Newf that was born on 5/21/04. Hopefully by the end of July we will be able to bring it home from MO. We don't have any human kids right now, but my 15 year old sister is pretty close. We are looking forward to reading all your stories and gathering valuable info.

Hi, my name is Lynn and I've been married for 10 years and we have 2 children, girl- 7 and boy -8. We live on Long Island. I do contract manufacting. My husband works for the DOT.

I had a great dane when growing up and after she passed my parents never wanted to get another dog. I had seen a show on Newfoundlands (about 20 years ago) and decided then that I wanted to get one! Well it took awhile, we were never ready for a dog, until recently and in February we got our Floyd. The first day we were home his name was Angus, the second day was Bruce, by the third I convinced everyone he looked like a Floyd (my husband was coming up with real bad names, me and the kids banned him from the naming process)). He is almost six months old now and we just love him, so does our entire neighborhood, he loves to go for walks cause he feels it is his right to go up and say HI to everyone!! Oh one guy that don't like Floyd is Finster our 4 year old cat. Finster will give Floyd a swat whenever Floyd starts bouncing toward him, I'm hoping that as Floyd grows they will become friends!

I read this forum daily while I'm at work (not always busy ;) ) it is very informative and amusing!!

Hi, I'm Janet, live in Southeastern Wis, right up the road from where Nationals were this year. Had our first Newf for 11 1/2 years, Duffy grew up with our daughter. After we lost him, the hole in our hearts was so large, we just didn't feel we should get another, but after 5 years, the time was right. Daughter had been asking for a dog for quite some time, started surfing the net and printing out pics and leaving them for Mom & Dad to find. Finally talked to Duffy's breeder, she had a pup that might be available, but someone had to decide if they wanted him first, she was just leaving for the Nationals, which we didn't realize were in the area, at the same time my husband's co-worker was searching the net too, and found the info on Nationals. We went down there every night after work, just to see the dogs, walking, getting groomed etc...and that sealed it, we were sure we wanted another one in our lives. Two weeks later, breeder said the other people changed their minds...wanted a girl, so we went to see him, and it was love at first sight. It was like everything just came together. ;)

Wow, there is just so much info with this thread! It's a great read!!!

I'm Amy and have been on Newf Net about 3.5 years but have not posted so much lately.

I share a three and a half year old black female Newfie with my Mum and sister, although she actually lives with them now, as me and my boyfriend Jed moved out last year and Rory stayed where she has always been - at home! However, I'm still very involved with her, as we just moved down the road, which is great.

I'm about to turn 25 and work at an insurance company at the moment as a call centre supervisor.

One day in the future I plan to have 2 more Newfs, when Jed and I move into a house (we are in an apartment now). This will probably be in about 5 years or so, at my guess!

OK, here goes.....

I'm Steve, and I'm like from Canada, eh. Well, Montreal to be precise so I have a double handicap of both coming from Canada and Quebec. Anyway, I work for a trust company, preparing tax returns ALL YEAR.

Celyne and I have been together 9 years now and have 2 wonderful children. Audrey is 8 and loves irish dancing so much that the other night while playing goaler in soccer she did a few steps of a jig. Or was it a reel ? Anyway..... Ian is 5 and he's quite a character. We just moved into a new house 45 minutes outside of Montreal (but it takes me 40 minutes on the train, go figure) and Ian met our next door neighbour who was washing his car. Ian pointed out that Serge had missed a few spots. Serge said thanks.

In October 2003, after 2 years of research and waiting, we got Ceilidh. She is a wonderful pup who will be 1 year old on June 29th.

I refuse to divulge whether it's boxers or briefs.....

Hi, I still haven't figured out how to get a picture with my messages. Oh well. Rick and I have been happily "living in sin" for 17 yrs. Before that I was married to a man who thought every family should have, at the most, or if at all, 1 dog and it was supposed to live outside! When I took up with Rick I had 2 huge Chows, 1 equally huge Alaskan Malamute, 4 cats(one of which thought he was a twin to my youngest daughter) and the meanest Cockatiel known to mankind. Only my youngest child was living at home but I had another daughter in college and a son and daughter who had graduated college and were living on their own. They came home a LOT.I figured any man that would take up with a lady 10 yrs older than he was with all those kids and animals(that lived inside with her) was a keeper! We have a rescue GrPyr about 7 yrs old and 4 cats, 2 rescues, 1 bought and 1 a breeder gave me. I had wanted a Newf since the mid '70s. First husband would not hear of it. Present and forever love thinks, "the more the merrier". I had intended to go the rescue route but started also looking for a puppy as there didn't seem to be that many rescues here. I also have 4 small grandchildren and was hesitant about taking in such a large adult dog. It takes me forever to select anything so my kids figured I might drop dead of old age before I got my Newf. They found a breeder that had puppies and I picked one out. It was not the way I had wanted to select my Newf, but once I saw him I was hooked. MacDuff or Duffy as we call him, is now 20 weeks old and so funny. I hven't had a puppy in about 25 yrs and he is growing up too fast! He drives my Pyr crazy! But...this is the first time in 2 years that I have ever seen the Pyr play. Of course Duffy keeps it up too long and Reddy has to "put him in his place". That is also the only time I have ever heard Reddy growl. Impressive. My 2 yr old grandson has learned basic puppy kindergarten commands which are too funny. He also uses them on me and will tell me to "Leave it Mimi!!!!" when he has had enough of my bossing him around. He and Duffy are both getting potty trained and he had a fit last week when I wouldn't let him go out in the yard and "potty" with Duffy! I am also a RN working 32 hrs on the weekend as a full time nurse. SO is in the home healthcare field duing the week so one of us is always home. Hey...maybe that is why we get along so well! LOL As someone else said, "Newfs are like chips, one is not enough" and I am thinking it would be fun to have a Landseer to go with my white Pyr and black Newf. SO just shakes his head and asks, " So that means no Saint puppy?" I said, "Of course not, it means in addition to!" Bonnie

Hi, I'm Cathy. I have been a seventh grade teacher for 28 years. I still love it so I guess it was a good choice. I have two grown children ( a boy and a girl) of whom I am very proud. I owned a Newf, Jackson, who was such a dear. I lost him suddenly at age 5. He is waiting for me at the Rainbow Bridge, I know. I now have a beautiful Newfy Landseer named Gloria. She is so precious to me. These dogs are unbelievably special. I used to mostly lurk but now participate a lot, (overcame shyness) really enjoy reading of all the antics of your wonderful dogs, and am learning so much. I like to travel, read, play outside, and almost everything else creative! I'm very eclectic ( another word for flighty).

Hi Everybody!,

My husband Jerry and I live in an old old house that we have been renovating for about 15 years. We have been married almost 25 years now and have raised 3 children. Travis is 27 years old, Sarah is 24 and Amy is 20. They have moved on so we found ourselves with alot more time on our hands. One day when we were going to visit our daughter in college, we stopped at country antque store and lo and behold, sitting by the entrance was this big beautiful newfoundland dog! He was just lovin on my husband and truly, with the sun shining on them, and my husband looking so hot in his bluejeans , I took a mental picture ;) . That was the beginning of this obsession with newfys! It took us about 8 months or so from that point to finally get one. I got a computer. Didn't know how to run one but started out looking for newfoundland dog imfo. Thats how I stumbled upon this site! I can honestly say that not 2 hours of my day goes by with out the thought of my maggie or one of your babies enters my mind. I show anyone who enters my home all the pictures on here( whether they like it or not ;) ). We renovated our backyard to fit the needs of our dog. We then decided to start our search for a nother newfy for our family. I thought about rescue but the timing wasn't right. We thought about a puppy, and before we totally found one, we came across a beautiful boy who was in a shelter. His name is leo and he was about 18 months old we believe when we got him. He is an austrailian shepard/golden. He has one blue eye and one brown and he is SWEET! Him and Maggie are best buddies and they do everything together. He is so smart and fits here like a glove. I will own another newfoundland some day too. We also have 3 kitties. Gizmo is our strange basement kitty. She is a ten year old tourtise shell himilyan and only wants to live in our basement. She has been skittish since the first day we got her 9 years ago and we have tried to get her to mix in, but she won't soo we let her do her own thing and I visit her a couple times everyday. Al is my big furry black kitty that I rescued from my manufacturing plant. He is about 5 now and is a big fury love. Sleeps with me everynight, then there is my 18 year old cat. His name is ruffles. He indeed has 9 lives and I think we are working on number ten right now. He is sooo skinny but eats all the time. He loves to just sit on the back porch and watch the birds and the dogs play.We lost our black cat jasper about a year ago and we still pray for his return. He just vanished. We searched and did everything possible to find him. I pray he is happy and safe. Well thats about all I know. Love this site and learn something new everyday

I always come in at the end of these things...

Lessee...I am 32 years old and I can't figure out exactly how I got to be this age because last time I checked i was only 22.
I have been married to Bill for 6 years (and yes I am female, just have a man's name). We have 2 cuties named Olivia (4) and Liam (2) in addition to Moya our 2 year old newf and Madigan our 1.5 year old crazy looking dog that must be part porcupine. We went to the shelter looking for a newf mix and came home with Madigan. ;)

We had always planned on getting a dog but that event was moved up when my husband got robbed (long story) and I decided a large dog needed to be in my house immediately. I did a lot of looking at different breeds on the net and I even found a site that rated dogs in terms of compatibility with families with small children. That's how I decided on the newfoudland. I've been in love ever since. Moya came to us at 11 weeks. My son was about 16 weeks at the time and my daughter 2.5 years. It was a tough summer but we made it.

We've had some serious medical issues with Moya but my fellow newf netters really came to our aide and helped us tremendously. I'm very proud to be part of this group! :D

Oh yeah...I am a high school special ed teacher and hubby is in computers, information tech, whatever you want to call it...

Sorry, I didn't realize the topic was BRIEF intros...

okay... guess I will join in here... : ) I am Betty... hubby is Craig. We have been together 4 years and have a combined total of 5 children.. his 2 (14 & 5), my 2(14 & 11) and our daughter Meghan who celebrated her 2nd birthday on May 19th. I will celebrate my 44th birthday next month and Craig is 50... so we are definitely older parents and we are really enjoying it. Craig is an engineer who travels 100% of the time for his job and only makes it home on the weekends. I am a daycare provider. We currently live in St. Louis but may be relocating in the very near future to Tennessee due to a job offer. We currently have one Newf, our Bailey girl. She will be one October 21st. We did alot of research after our beloved Labrador Maggie died and decided we wanted a Newf. Bailey has been a big challenge but she is getting MUCH better and we couldnt imagine life without her. Once we decide to relocate or stay here, we hope to add another pup to the family. My 11 year old daughter Katie has one bunny, 2 parakeets and one guinea pig. Our lives pretty much center around the kids and animals, however, Craig has a Honda motorcycle and I have one too : ) Guess thats about it.

Hi Everyone,
My name is Kelly and I live in beautiful upstate Vermont with my husband "Cal" and our Newf baby "Owen". We also have a pound kitty named "Zoe", but we haven't seen her much since Owen arrived. She resides upstairs in one of the kids rooms. We have 6 kids between us, Cal has 3 boys (all grown) and I have 2 girls in college and one son on his way to college in the fall. YIPPEE! (did I say that???) shhhh! Don't tell him! Cal and I both work full time and we have a home business making dog kookies. It started out small and now we have 2 distributors and are baking 24-7 to try to keep up. It's a lot of fun! (stressful too!) Owen is definately the center of our (my) universe, but I also enjoy gardening and woodworking.
