Phoenix further out of his shell

Our second foster failure, Phoenix has been with us for almost a year... he's come a very long way since the guy who sequestered himself in the spare bedroom and wore circles in the yard. Now he lets himself out if the inside back door is open, enjoys riding in the car and is improving on walks. Today, my daughter took some video of him playing with my dad's new puppy. Her name (for the moment) is Sapphire and she's about 6 months old, a GSD mix and recently came into our shelter from a kill shelter in Tennessee. If my dad hadn't told me recently that he was looking for a fur kid, she would have ended up at my house... Pheney has really taken a liking to her, they play constantly!!! I think he'll really miss her when my dad comes to pick her up next week... hmmmm.... may have to see what comes up from Tn. next week to see if there might be a new playmate for Pheney!! LOL Hubby would KILL ME!!!!

ahh they both look great, he' s doing really well, will you keep him?
Oh, he's staying! We decided to keep him just shortly after the new year - he was SO SHY/TIMID that I couldn't see sending him off to a new home and having him revert. We've had the puppy here for a week and he's really enjoying it.... I think it's because she's closer to his age than Onyx (who really acts more like a tolerant aunt toward him for the most part) and gets him going. He's such a goober dog!!! It took forever and a day to get to the point we are with him, and I know there's more to come, but I really wouldn't trade him for the world - it's awesome just watching his confidence grow day by day.

He's doing AWESOME!!! What have you been doing to bring him out of his shell? I have a friend with a rescue landseer who is undersocialized and afraid of everything. She's only had the girl for maybe 6 months... I'm wondering if you found anything in particular really helped Pheney?
