Newfs water rescue?!?

DOGS?!?...

NOT MINE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yesterday my neighbors down the road, who have two Newfs, stoped by on their walk. Me and my three joined in on the short walk around the small lake I live on. All five doggies got some swimming in during the walk.

When we got back to my place, we let the 'kids' do some more swimming. The Newfs can be kept off lead, but I have to keep a 25' floating check cord on my ESS Crazy Daisy (too much stuff she goes 'hunting' for).

3 adults and 5 dogs on the dock, I knew it was an accident waiting to happen. Daisy's check cord got wrapped around my legs and SPALSH!!! In I went, sweat shirt, jeans and hiking boots, with Daisy on top of me trying to drown me.

What were the 4 Newfs doing?!? Standing on the dock with their tounges hanging out and waggin' their tails. Yeah... some water rescue dogs they are...

by the way, Minnesota Lakes are still a little chilly this time of the year...

Maybe they thought Daisy was rescuing you and they didn't need to bother.
What a chilly experience though.

Oops...Well since the line was on your leg, they must have figured, "She's on lead so she'll be alright!" :)

Given the circumstances glad there were other people around to help get you out. Maybe specialized training for the Newfs this SUMMER

Did you holler for help? During water training, when the "drowner" starts yelling "help dog help" ... all the crated dogs on the shore line go crazy barking trying to get out of their crates in order to answer the call!

Perhaps they did know you were not in any real danger. I had a friend who thought her pit bull mix was a wimp, but I told her the dog would not protect he unless he truly thought there was danger. Well, one day a neighbor child was threatening to hit her daughter with a stick (playfully, but the dog did not know that), and he went bounding out of the house upset to place himself between her daughter and the stick wielder. Glad you were okay, but full of sympathy for the cold bath. Brrr.
