Hmm - trying to think of new names for a female puppy - we have a theme - all our dogs have to have Disney names - (would like this one to be a piratey one ) we already have :
Cru'Ella ( 101 Dalmations)
Merlin (Sword in the Stone)
Minnie (Self Explanatory!)
......

I know you want piratey...but I like the idea of Merryweather, which is on that list (then you could tie it in to the Lewis & Clark theme :))

Anamaria is the female pirate captain in Pirates of the Caribbean. Giselle and Scarlett are 2 'wenches' that appear in 2 and 3 of the movies, respectively.

Names from Finding Nemo: Dori, Bubbles, Coral, Darla

Peter Pan had pirates: Tiger Lily, Wendy, Smee (And Peter Pan had a Newf!)

Here's a list of all the pirates from Peter Pan - which was a Disney film! Totally appropriate since J.M. Barrie, (the author), had a Newf!

Smee
Starkey
Ed Teynte
Bill Jukes
Cecco
Cookson
Noodler
Skylights (AKA Morgan's Skylights)
William Slank
Alf Mason
Little Richard
Black Pirate
Robert Mullins
George Scourie
Charles Turely
Foggerty

Or you could go with Tiger Lily - she was the Indian princess...

Or Tick-Tock - that was the name of the crocodile that ate Captain Hook's hand, (and watch). For some puppies naming them after a crocodile would be completely appropriate!

Oh, I love the name Nala (Nahla) and I loved the Lion King. You could pair that name up with a song from the movie like Piratebear's Circle of Life or Piratebear's Can You Feel The Love Tonight..... I am assuming this is from your (hopefully) upcoming litter! Also, loved the name Simba from the movie-that could be a female's name too (which means lion).

Pirates Matey!

We thought of getting a calico female Maine Coon and naming her Calypso but then stuck with 2 males, Barbossa & Pyrate. Barbossa means "red beard" and Barbossa is red orange. Pyrate has a silver black patch over one eye.

Pirates 4 is opening May 20 featuring Blackbeard -- a great name for a black Newfie!

If we get another male Newf we'll name him Skallywag if it fits

I like Skullywag but Lynn prefers Skallywag.

The next movie is chock full of new creatures, names, zombies, mermaids, lotsa pirates -- should be fun! And yummy Captn Sparrow!

Let's not forget that before Disney got their hands on Peter Pan, Nana the dog was a Newf, not a St. Bernard.

Merlin & Mickey are both named after Disney characters;
Mickey's name also came from both our fathers;
Tiki was named by our breeder so we just kept his name.
Cindy, short for Cinderella
Minnie (always liked that for a female)

I don't know why, but for some reason in the shower today I thought about these two Guinnea Pigs I had when I was 10 (ish) years old, of which one was named after a Neil Gaiman character and the other was named after a Disney character (I was a strange little girl ;) ). Anyhow, it reminded me of this thread so I thought I'd throw in Faline (pronounced Fuh-leen), Bambi's love interest! It's not related to pirates in any way, but I always thought that was a lovely name.

Well, I don't have a pirate name but one of our Newfs call name was Mac. Short for Mac the Newf.
Also had a Blizzard who got her name because the blizzard back east prevented her from being shipped for an additional two weeks. Years later we were driving somewhere and there was a Dairy Queen commercial on the radio. You should have seen Blizzy try to figure out why her name was blasting from the car speakers!

That's funny! We are going through the same thing with The commercials for the Yogi Bear Movie, His ears go up, and his eyes have a look like, :shocker: "They said my name" One of the puppies from my last litter is called Blizzard, they live in Colorado.
Not good on pirate names, but when I think of pirates "Matey" comes to my mind :)
