Hey everybody, it's me!! Sokol! Just checking in to see what you are all up to.

I have been busier than a cat covering..........well, just busy.

There is so much to do, and I have alot of responsibility. New babies being born, there's a small pack of yearling coyotes across the highway and they like to toy with me a bit. Those pesky fox are still around (they are really some kind of lunatics) , and just the other everyday stuff, like hawks and those dang crows. I hate those crows....dog food stealin varmits is what they are.

And, my mom brought home a sheltie rescue last night. He is ok for a little dog....I have kind of taken him under my...ahem...leg. (my hind leg! rolf rolf!)

She had to take him to the vet today to get him checked out and see if he had a microchip. I went along for moral support for the little guy.

But, when we got to the vet's office, while the visit was supposed to be about Shilo, I kind of stole the show. It was my masculine charm and good looks....Those vet techs went nuts for me. I put my paw on the receptionist desk and stood up in a bit of a beefcake pose, and they all just went crazy over me. They gave me plenty of treats and lots of pets.

They even looked me up in their dog book, but Tornjaks weren't listed in it. Mom told them I was really rare.

Little Shilo has to go back on Tuesday and get himself *fixed*. That ain't gonna make him happy! Oh well, he can join the club.

Mom got ahold of a sheltie rescue and they are trying to figure out where to put this little guy. He isn't too bad of a dog, but he looks like someone might have kicked him around a bit. Grrrr, that makes me so mad.

Sorry I have been out of touch for so long, but I just have so much to do in the spring of the year, and with a job to do, a guy just can't take off an hang out online......

I hope you all are doing fine!

All my best
Sokol

Charity...

Charity, I am Sokol the Great...hornorary newf extraordinaire. I was in a shelter in Canada and my dear friend Jen (aka Murphy's mom) went and got me out. Someone id'd me as a landseer newf, but Jenn knew better.

They figured out that I am a rare breed Tornjak from Croatia. So, these great people at NN put together a transport and got me to my new home in Missouri. It was quite a ride, and there were so many great people. I have alot of best friends now. (How could they NOT love me after spending a little time in a car with me?)

I am VERY handsome. Very charming, and exceptionally smart. I am a livestock guardian dog, and I take my job pretty serious, but I do like taking a bit of time off from the goats to play football with my new boy.

I have a pretty good life here, and my family is just absolutely crazy about me. :groovy: But, hey...how could they not be?

Charity,, and any other new NNers.. Jeannie is digging up the old threads and posts detailing Sokols journey. Take some time to read them.. (you will need a couple of hours). It is a feel good story that will melt your heart and keep you on the edge of your seat. I guarantee you will laugh and cry and just be amazed.. It created a bond between so many of us and to this day still reads like a real life fairy tale. For those of you who ordered the cookbook, his story is chronicled there as well.. :icon_knuddel:

He is still working miracles. After a very trying time the past few days, he brought a smile to me today.. This is Patti (ozzysma,) Sandra (blacknewfs) and me springing Sokol from the shelter to begin his journey home. I have a million more pics but these two are extra special.

This is Sokol today.. taking a break from his goats..

I just spent about an hour reading about your life and rescue. I am so moved by all of the love that people poured into giving you a good life. It's great to see how happy you are.

Thanks Charity! Did I mention that the word "devastatingly" is used often before someone mentions how handsome I am?

There are no better people anywhere in this world than the ones right here on NN. The gave me a ride, each and every leg of the journey....loving on me and taking special care of me, all so I could get here and have a boy of my own, a farm, and stuff to do......like play football!

I am one lucky lucky dog, who just happens to be stunningly handsome as well!

Hi there Sokol and Robyn! We've missed you so, but know you're busy doing your job. Just for the heck of it, I went back and re-read the "Adventures" and felt all the same emotions again.

From my own recollection of the time, I was SO worried, once I said you were probably Tornyak, that I was afraid no one would agree and you would be adopted out to another pet home; and then, end up back in another shelter or worse. I was convinced that you needed a working home and someone who understood your personality. I got very little sleep that night worrying about you and paced around the house A LOT!

I should have had more faith in the wonderful NNer's who instantly recognized the possibility and knew you needed a working home, too.

Then there was the matter of Robyn. LOL. It's funny how protective we can be, even when we don't personally know who we're protecting. Since I live on the Kansas/Missouri line, I am well aware of the puppy mills, dog fighting, etc. that goes on in this part of the country. I wanted to be sure we checked out your mom before we sent you to her place. You can't be too careful, you know! I think everyone felt the same way. You were "our boy" from the moment Jen wrote about you and we weren't gonna let just ANYBODY have you!

Well, I guess you know the end of the story! We sort of checked up on your mom and found out she is a special sort of gal and probably the only person on the North American continent who COULD give you the perfect home.

Then, when everyone started jumping on the bandwagon to get you home, I started crying and I'm not sure I've stopped since. From the first post about you to the very last, I couldn't take my eyes off the computer until you were home safe.

And, everytime I read your story, I'm filled with the knowledge that the world is a nice place with really good people who care. You have a fan club that would rival the biggest star.

Oh shoot, here I go again with the tears. LOL

So there you go, little buddy! I think about you and your mom often and love it when you take a break to check in with us.

Well said Jane. I know from the first time I laid eyes on him in that cage that I would have to find a way to get him out. Didn't have a clue how I was going to do it but somehow knew the NN family would step up. Step up indeed.. it is still miraculous how it all came together. It seems my every waking hour was consumed with Barry (Sokol). Hours and hours spent at the computer.. Racing home from work to see what I had missed. Exhilaration, fear at times. And a great deal of pride and love for everyone who got involved and sent prayers.. Kinda like a big cheer leading team. Along the way we even managed to have a bit of fun. (remember pool boy). :shocker:I bet everyone who followed his journey can remember where they were and how they felt when we got word that our beloved boy had reached his forever home.
Yup.. still brings tears to my eyes. Happy tears though.
I think the threads should be required reading for all new NN members so they can truly appreciate the extraordinary group that they will becoming part of.

Picture worth a th0usand words.. You bet..

Wow, from my lips to god's ears...I was just thinking of Sokol yesterday too and wondering how he was doing;knowing Robyn has a real working farm and "our" Sokol has a real job to do. So glad to hear from you, you "devastatingly handsome" buddy. Big hugs and Newf slobbers from Gracie and Maneen too.
