This is my first attempt to upload a picture - so please let me know if it doesnt work. We picked up our little boy a few days earlier than we expected. He really is such a sweetheart and has been such a trooper. We had to drive 10 hours from VT to Maryland - where we will stay for one week before starting our drive back to Las Vegas. he was great in the car, plopped himself down in front of the fan and slept. Nothing seems to faze him (motorcycles, vacuum, loud noises, people - all types *even crutches. He had terrible tummy problems yesterday (but rice and chicken broth has been helping - and I will try some kibble today)

oh and he is so difficult to catch on camera. he doesnt like it one bit (just like me!) So sorry that the pic is not great quality.

Thanks!

We picked him up sunday afternoon and he was just fine. But yesterday he felt awful (and I felt awful for him!) It just went on and on...and I didnt know what to do (I have sooo much to learn) The rice and broth seems to have worked (and someone suggested a tbls of canned pumpkin) Im hoping to mix in just a little bit of kibble tonight. Yesterday he was drinking water - which was a relief. Today not so much water but more hungry. And he is peeing a ton! I am hoping his body is just sorting itself out after all this change.

Good luck with your little one victoria1140. And since you are experienced and have one about the same age - I look forward to trading stories.

He is cute! It could just be the stress from the long trip. Are you feeding him the food from the breeder? Sometimes even a water change can upset them. Maybe try bottled water for a few days.

The breeder gave us 30lbs of food ; so we have been using that and we have used only bottled water. I thought he was getting better (he seemed much happier and his first stool was a bit firmer) so I gave him 1 cup rice, a little chicken broth, and 1/4 cup of his kibble and it has gotten messy again. Although it is not the uncontrollable type he had yesterday. I am going to give his last meal of only rice and broth and try the bit of canned pumpkin. He is drinking water (and peeing an awful lot.)

Any other ideas out there? How much longer should I try the rice and broth route? I would say that he is nice and happy - only the diarrhea and his hands, mouth and ears are warm. I want to make his tummy better - but I dont want him to be receiving too little food or nourishment.

I am a NATURAL WORRIER!

I'd reintroduce the kibble very slowly. Maybe wait until he has had a firm movement more than once before adding it back in? I'm a worry-mom myself. I've never tried the pumpkin, but Traveler did well on plain yogurt added to the rice when he was "loose."

I had thought of that, then became concerned because im pretty sure he has never had yogurt before. Do you think this would be a problem? I would like to try it but really dont want to make things worse. Also - plain yogurt, like dannon or greek?

He seemed to do ok with a few bits of kibble as a clicker reward...but I think I was too hasty when he seemed to be doing better.

Also, probably a silly question but what is a normal stool for a 9 1/2 week old puppy? I know diarrhea is bad...but are they normally runny or should i be able to pick it up easily? Im such a newbie :)
